Schwab

I've watched techs at my local Schwab tire store dismount, flat repair, and remount lady's tires while they wait, then send them away without charging them. Happened twice while I was waiting for new tires. They have brake specialists, and there is one in Van. Nothing like doing brakes day after day to get pretty good at it. They also have a reputation to maintain.

Here's my experience with Schwab brake jobs.

I took a Chevy truck in to the shop in Sublimity, and they INSISTED I had to buy new calipers. Said it was their policy and it was for safety.

Well, it is a great CYA for them, and the have a huge markup on the parts, but it is not necessary to change the calipers.

On my other Chevy truck, I ran it for over 500,000 miles with the original calipers and rotors. Just changed the pads and the brakes worked great.

Have 213,000 miles on my GMC right now, still on original calipers. Pads changed once so far.

Sure, it's possible to have rotten experiences anywhere; I have just seen quick [and sometimes little freebies for women] work out of Schwab in my town. Do you know of a good brake shop in Van-pdx?

But how did you get 500k out of rotors, drag your feet?
