BigDog: So WTF is your worry? Just don't forget to carry your creds. You planned to pack a gun, regardless; now, the only issue you have is what you want to carry...I would suggest something less conspicous than an AR10.

I've been pissin and moaning to the NCWRC for several years (since Bush let the NPS regs open up to CHP carry in national parks.

yes, the NCWRC regs say no hangguns out of hunting season except a .22 S/L/LR with a barrel <7.5" on NC Gamelands (which include ALL NFS lands in NC)

I say

§ 14‑415.23. Statewide uniformity.
It is the intent of the General Assembly to prescribe a uniform system for the regulation of legally carrying a concealed handgun. To insure uniformity, no political subdivisions, boards, or agencies of the State nor any county, city, municipality, municipal corporation, town, township, village, nor any department or agency thereof, may enact ordinances, rules, or regulations concerning legally carrying a concealed handgun. A unit of local government may adopt an ordinance to permit the posting of a prohibition against carrying a concealed handgun, in accordance with G.S. 14‑415.11(c), on local government buildings, their appurtenant premises, and parks. (1995, c. 398, s. 1.)

I just posted another comment in the proposed regulations saying this again.

Go HERE before Oct, 2011 to post your own comment for the NCWRC to consider in the next set of regulations.

I got into it with their head Law Enforcement type about how I can ride my street legal, licensed bike on US 276 thru Pisgah NF while carrying concealed, but he felt it was a violation if I did it on Yellow Gap Rd
even though I pointed out both were federally maintained roads.

If arrested or fined I will be the test case

What does a citizen do if an Agency of the State passes regulations contrary to the LAW passed by the Legislature? Go to court??

To the OP:

Carry if you feel you want to

bigdog54, you pulled a lot of crazies out bringing up the gun! i stayed out of that one as for riding up vs the train, this is what i do. leave jax at o700 and do max comfortable speed up 95, lunch in columbia sc and pull into blueridge motorcycle campground no later than 4pm. beer and food stop in brevard before heading over the mountain. excitement alone gets you through that first day of 400 miles. the next morning there are more than a few directions to ride with mc campgrounds in each of them ..if you don't like blue ridge facilities...

There's nothing at all to worry about on the BRP. Most common creature you'll spot will be a yuppies in german suvs. The gun would just be useless weight. the train makes no sense to me either, but to each his own.

Just A Heads Up on NCWRC Rulez on CHP in NFS

To the OP:

Carry if you feel you want to
Looks like the NCWRC finally got the message that they were in violation of the Legislature's intent in the NC General Statutes Chapter 14-415.23, which says only the Legislature may pass laws on concealed handguns ...specifically excluding €gencies of the State (like the NCWRC)

http://www.ncwildlife.org/Licensing/...aledCarry.aspx

So now you can carry concealed (with a permit) in NC National Forests

Oh and now ANY state concealed permit is recognized in NC

Looks like a nice ride. I didn't realize that Amtrak caused issues for LEO's on their conceal carry. I see no need for me traveling that way then!
