When you say "your bro got it bad this time" Do you mean the ride or the report? It was actually worse than what he said. I had the jumbo sized bear spray can which i purchased at a military surplus store. Looked like a small fire extinguisher. I balanced the weight on the other side with my toolkit, both inner tubes and a bunch of other really heavy stuff i should not have brought.

Great ride report

Thanks for the laughs. How would you rate the difficulty of the ride? Could an noobie/ LOOONG out of practice dirt rider on a heavy road bike make it with just a change of tires or is a dedicated dirt bike necessary?

The difficulty level of the trail would be easy with the odd patches of deep ruts which would only cause trouble if you went barreling into them and not see them first. There are some work around routes in the tracks for big bikes which would probably take you around some of the steeper rocky down hill sections. What kind of bike are you talking about? There are some sections that I would not want to ride a big bike down just because of the large loose rocks and the consequences of falling down a side hill and not getting your bike back out. Have a look at the website video and this may give you a better idea.

Hey tony.bike
Good to hear from you. The one pic was worthy. Only bad on the incident. Funny bit you add on here because I was going to ask rp "does your bro use have the stuff he brings with him?" But I thought that was uncalled for. Then I see "...really heavy stuff I should not have brought." I'm at times accused of packing "ready for bear." Light packing comes easy for some of us...but for others (...me?...) it takes practice and diligence.

I'm a man, but I can change...if I have to..I guess.

Keep up the great rides! We hit the owyhees hard this last weekend.

Redpillar and Tony.Bike - great RR. I tried to read the bear spray incident to wifey but was laughing so much she had to read it herself. We've packed fire extinguisher sized cans of bear spray on canoe trips so this RR gave us reason to rethink it. And as a friend commented, if the bear is that close maybe it's a little too late. Reading RR's like this has prompted me to pick up a used 250S to explore this other side of biking. Keep the reports coming.

See you down the trail!

Thanks for reading..So glad you enjoyed it, I pretty well laughed my bag off writing it. It wasn't as funny when it was happening of course but as it did, I was thinking to myself, " this is going to be good ". I have also trained myself to grab the camera before lending a hand, which I must say Tony has not mastered yet because he would have had some great pictures of me turtlling around on my back in two feet of water when I fell into the guano river on our Oregon trip...I think that the string of swear words are still circling the earth from that episode...hehehe

Great RR. Not much of a dirt rider yet but looks like I need to be soon. Agree that the section between Randle and Carson on 25 is the best asphalt riding I have done in Washington also. Watch the bumps!

Great ride report, loved it and you have such a beautiful country to ride in, Loved the pic of the snow covered mountain peak. I know what you mean about stopping and taking pics, it all takes time, stop get the gloves off blah blah, but if you dont you end up with no pics to show others and look back on yourself. I allways look back at my pics of my big trip on my computer at work and just daydream waiting for my next.
Have you read my trip to Innamincka?
Cheers.
