I agree ...We need a seperate spot where inmates can go to rather than sifting through different regional forums. I know in the past from my own experiences it would have helped !

Not in this case since it would be relevant in both.

But, I'll monitor the transport requests. We'd need probably several hundred valid requests per year for this to be considered.

Don't look for it to happen in the next few weeks, or even months. Adding new forums takes a long time and a lot of discussion.

I didn't know you were talking about an entirely new forum. I thought it was more about stickies. In the Latin America forum we're talking about adding two stickies: "Shipping, Latin America," which would have current and up-to-date info about shipping, and another, "Services, Latin America," which would be more for mechanics shops, travelers hotels (such as Dakar Motos in Buenos Aires," and other relevant info that would get lost in "Vendors."

Most needed, in Latin America, is shipping info. Currently, getting a bike to South America is almost harder than riding it there yourself, and often it's quicker to just ride it. Searching on advrider and horizons unlimited often yields nothing. A while ago, somebody started a thread about shipping across the Darien Gap, and it's been very, very helpful.

As I see it.

We need to get this thread and this poll some exposure. How do we do that within the rules? Cuz I copy and pasted it somewhere else and it got nuked.

Bike transport forum

USA east to west
USA north to south
USA empty truck east to west
USA empty truck west to east

Help along the way USA

Help along the way Northeast states
Help along the way Southeast states
HATW South central states
HATW SW states
HATW CA
HATW PAC NW
HATW North central states

And in each forum, it would be up to the individual parties to work out pay, compensation, barter...etc. And obviously, forums for Latin America, Europe would be useful too.

I don't know how anyone cannot see the value in this. Flea market, track day transportation, getting bikes to shops for wrenching, break downs.

This will only add to this community and bring more peeps together.

A bike transport sub forum might get 10 posts a week.

Regionals.

Count me in.

I have bought, traded and sold about 15-20 bikes on ADVrider this year alone.
Each time traveling an average of about 400 - 500 miles. This weekend I am driving from Indiana to Washington, PA dropping off a KTM 640, then to Pittsburg to pick up a TE610
Next day down to Lexington, KY for a XR650R that is coming from NC. All 3 trades originated on these forums.

My trailer will haul 3 bikes, so picking up extras is not a big deal.

But, Problems could arise if a bike gets damaged or stolen while in the third party peeps possession.

i'ed like some sort of transport sticky as well or forum. i change bikes a lot because i'm young and like to try different bikes until i find something that sticks. getting them from there to here with no car/truck is hard. plus someone else wins if its on the way. dedicated people who transport bikes for a living belong in vendors though.

I think this is a fantastic Idea. Example, I would love to ride around the gulf states but because of a bad back it would take me eight day's just to get there. If someone could get my bike and maybe me there throwing in a few hundred for gas would be great. A sub forum where people could post up their route and time frame would be perfect.

Thanks

Dave

If ADV is in the 'business' of advertising bikes from all over, it's only logical that transport should be advertised too in its own forum as well.

Not too sure about the specific categories of travel since some may incorporate E-W-N-S loops. Perhaps just origin-destination in the thread title makes the most sense.
