Airhead Parts Catalogs in Dead Tree format?

New perspective airhead owner here. I'm wondering who to send my address off to so I'll get some nice dead tree format parts catalogs/books to thumb through.

Not aware of any current catalogs being issued state side. www.siebenrock.com offers a PDF file you can copy. www.motobins.co.uk/ used to have one years ago, just looked over there and no mention of getting a paper catalog. I have one from Bob's BMW that they did a couple of years ago but that is out of print. I don't expect them to issue another.

Paper catalogs are a thing of the past it seems. Happened while we were all sleeping.

There is a book that used to be issued called a Snabbkatalog or Snab book for short. The only place I know you might buy one of those is Capital Cycle. They don't currently list them on their web page but if you call you might get one. These books are pretty big. The one I have covers parts for R50/5 thru R100RT or so it claims. This is not a catalog itself. It has no prices in it but it lists all the parts on a BMW motorcycle by part number. Most all of the part numbers are outdated though. There are internet sources for getting part numbers and these are kept much more up to date than any library can be. Ask for Tom. http://capitalcycle.com/ And BTW this book, Snab Catalog, will cost $50 or so.

There are fewer and fewer parts available all the time. More and more parts are becoming not available.

If there is a particular part that you want to see a current price on use Max BMW for their dealer prices. If you want to write to the forum about a particular part then look it up on realoem.com. This link can be posted in your thread.

Good luck.

The factory parts manuals on paper are really cool, I used one in '99 when I worked at a dealership... that said they didn't have any updated numbers and were way old.

Contact some older BMW dealers and see if they have any laying around.

Thanks everyone, several good leads here. I was interested in seeing what's available and what stuff is crazy expensive and to avoid having to buy. Bikes are two R69 models. It looks like the first $200 or so will get me a reasonable amount of cables & rubber bits but needing a whole headlight & ignition switch setup is going to be egg-$pensive. I was also hoping that some of the print stuff would have exploded diagrams - I may spring for the Snab book..

Yes, the Snab books have the exploded pictures you want. This can be very helpful. But you can see the exploded diagrams on realoem.com. What you will need is the manual or better yet several manuals. There is a BMW Shop manual and there are after market ones, I suppose. I don't own a /2 or earlier BMW. There are a number of things about them that are not modern. Do you know when the "slingers" were last cleaned? This is a big job and it needs taking care of on a regular basis. If there is a previous owner, PO, then this person should have told you when the slingers were last cleaned. If you don't know then maybe you should do it right away. I don't know if there is some way to "look" and see if they need cleaning, maybe there is.

You'll be lucky to get away putting just one bike on the road for $200.
