TAT Colorado 2011

TAT Colorado 2011

Lake City to Ophir

If you never been trough this passes that are part of the Alpine Loop is good to know few things before you approach them . First of all I would recommend that you have some off-road experience and some confidence . The passes aren't that extreme but one mistake can turn deadly . Good tires and brakes are a must and preferably this passes should be approached on dry weather . I think the most dangerous are those switchbacks going down hill and those so called GULCHES . Corkscrew is bad , steep and narrow with no turning back in my opinion ! Slow speed and careful braking is the trick to avoid a catastrophe ! This are just my thoughts riding a 500 lbs bike and do not apply to smaller ones . Good Luck !

Engineer Pass

Made it down to Animas Forks and I was ready for California Pass but I made a wrong turn that took me around the mountain on a GULCH ( can't remember it's name ) that wasn't very easy .

the trail to Cinnamon Pass , pic taken from that unknown GULCH

the trail to Engineer Pass pic taken from that unknown GULCH

Back on track to Animas Forks and on my way to Hurricane Pass and California Pass

On my way to Corkscrew -not too many pics just because I couldn't stop -the terrain is not very friendly

Ophir Pass and Owl Creek Pass

SPECTACULAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Made it down to Ophir after a long day going over Engineer , Hurricane , California , Ophir plus Corkscrew Gulch and THE Unknown one . My vacation days were ending so rather than ride West to Monticello UT I made plans to ride North instead towards home . The fun is not over yet so I went to Ridgway then took Owl Creek Pass where I camped out - kind of cold as you will see .

Great RR!

Both the RR and the pics are superb! Also like the added video. Nice job on replacing the tire. Much quicker than I can do on my 650GS.

Wow bro', I thought I had an adventure ride on my Concours. I now know I have to return on a dual sport to Silverton & Ouray and do the dirt. Your report is amazing.
Here's a shot of you & Lulu, when you were repairing your blowout.

Fantastic Cat, simply FANTASTIC! Loved your Colorado pictures; that section of the TAT from Lake City through to Ophir is THE BEST part of the TAT in my opinion; bummed I had to skip it this time around, but atleast I got to see your pictures of it!

Thanks for putting this together and sharing it with us.

Indeed it is The Best part of TAT and the most spectacular . When I was up there going over the passes I stooped for few minutes I smiled and I felt this strange felling of pure happiness . Next year I will go again as part of my Western TAT trip Colorado to Oregon and hopefully with a little twist to it .

Thank You
