Heading to the Catskills this weekend camping. Just found out there are 5 fire towers that are open to the public. I should be able to hit all 5 in one day if the hike in isn't too far. Photo's to come.

http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/lands_for...sfiretower.pdf

Edit:

Just read that PDF and there's no way I'll see all of these in one day. Most are a 6 mile hike (round trip) and a few 3-4 miles. If the trails aren't too steep I can probably knock off a few in one day though.

Edit after visiting one tower: No way I could do more than one tower in a weekend. I took the shortest hike in at Red Hill fire Tower (1.4 miles each way) and that just about killed me. I'll have to get in shape to do the longer trails.

$10 a night camping at Peaceful Valley Campground just south of Downsville...

Hardy breakfast at Roscoe Diner on the way to the Red HIll fire tower. Rueben burger, yep, corned beef and sour kraut on a burger! I'd regret this later climbing that freaking trail.

Pimp mobile the old fart owner of the diner tools around in...

Red Hill tower trail, just outside of Claryville, NY.

After an 1 1/2 vertical minutes of pain the reward...

cool map to locate different areas...

If/when I tackle the next hike I'm taking shorts and sneakers. Not cool in riding boots and pants when it's 90 out.

I took this identical shot in Margaretsville a few years ago but with my Sprint in the shot....

Found this sweet little gem just south of the Cannonsville Res...

Headed home early this morning. Front tire is in need of a change and the bike wasn't feeling all that comfortable on pavement. Didn't get to ride much dirt but I'll be back there soon.

About beaches

One should never ride his/her motorcycle anywheres near the shoreline. I know this but I feel it's important to mention it after returning from RI. I had to tag the state and also had to tag Conn and Mass as well so why not head there. I'll tell you why. It's hot and sandy and the only bars around are attached to seafood restaurants and people get all dressed up going to those places and bring there kids and shit.
Had a great ride through CT this morning going SE to NW into Mass. Should have taken some pics but I didn't cause it was a good ride and I didn't want to stop. The only pics I took were back in NY.

This is the only one that made sense. The rest of the ride was to cleanse my mind of beach people...

Foggy Sunday morning ride around Speedsville.

This could be habit forming. If you can't sleep in might as well go for a ride....

Newark Valley Library...

Coffee stop in Speedsville...

cool hat, cool dude...

State Forest roads...

Note: Took over 50 pics this morning. Only took a dozen or so on my trip to RI this week. Go figure...

Not on the bike but took these at Watkins Glen and Cayuga Lake yesterday with my kids. Beautiful day. Wish the Glen pics came out better.

Just a beautiful day for dirt roads today. Only took a few pics but that's cause I was enjoying the ride way too much.

PA roads today.

Pa roads yesterday as well but in the car with the kids. Went to Williamsport to watch Japan tromp over Panama in the Little League World Series (they beat Tennessee today for the championship). Also watched Tenn vs California after that. Great crowds for both games but obviously the US teams got a bigger audience. Been wanting to go for a long time and something always came up. This is a great way to spend the day and the level of play is really something.

I've passed this once before, just west of Pleasant Mount, Pa. It's a retaining wall to a large pond/small lake. Thought it was pretty cool.

Love the steps up...

Great thread! I'm in Lords Valley, PA. It's a dual sport/adventure riders dream in this neck of the woods.

How are your new tires treating you on the DR? Looks like Shinkos?

Yep, they're Shinkos (700 &705). I like them a lot but the 705 on the rear would probably suck on any slick stuff.
I get down your way quite often but haven't had time to really explore the area on the DR. Gotta make a point to do that more.
