MCN UK have a Milan feature in the latest issue. They ask the boss of BMW Motorrad his viewpoint about all the new ADV type bikes. He reckons the Tiger looks unfinished.
This from the bloke who has to walk past crates of warranty return parts everyday.
Who says Germans have no sense of humour..

Sometimes it's better to have the finely finished surfaces, under the fascia...

Puns aside, it's just great to have far more choices out there.

The Tiger looks unfinished, BMW's don't.

BMW hide all that underneath the nice paint.

Sounds like MCN want to know what they will say in a review to me. But it does look just as bits and pieces as the GS.

They also appear to be polite and show remarkable restraint. "unfinished" is too kind for that asthetic monstrosity. And, yes, I will likely purchase one regardless

My one word of advice; simplify!

IMO I have not seen one non-italian beautiful motorcycle in last X years.
This time Ducati ruled it - even better than Agusta. It was cool - walk from fugly GS and EXplorer 1200 over to look at Panigale or F4 was quite experience

Do you refer to BMW here? Have you read the comments CEO Kunnheim has made over the last few years or so? If you dig up some interviews I think you will realize what a loose cannon the guy is. "Arrogant Ass" has been used to describe him as well!

He starts off proclaiming BMW will soon "dominate" WSB racing. Then more recently decries how Husqvarna, now with BMW "Superior" technology, will dominate off road racing, including Moto Cross and Super Cross. And of course most are familiar with his comments claiming Triumph "plagiarised" BMW's F800GS design on the Tiger T800XC. I guess he doesn't know Triumph's 800 Tiger was in development with Triumph Italy since 2007. Prototype drawings were published in the BRIT magazines years before the bike ever came to be ... and before release of the F800GS.

But simplify is good advice. If anyone here has ever had to try to do a roadside analysis of BMW's ABS or CANbus failures .... (I have) then you know well what a nightmare of needless complexity BMW employs.

BTW, Triumph does use a sort of limited CANbus system, but is not over all like the BMW. It only is used on part of the system. This at least true on the Tiger 1050. I'm assuming the 1200 will be similar. I discovered this when I needed to disable my headlight ... due to install of wrong bulb. Rather than disassemble entire headlight cover I simply tried removing the headlight fuse. Bike would start due interruption of CANbus circuits. CANbus is good for diagnosis if you have a computer with proper software. If not ... can slow you down. That said .... I've had 3 Tigers dating back to 1995. Not major problems with any of them. Triumph are on a roll. If they can maintain QA from suppliers (unlike BMW) their future looks very bright indeed.

This bike just keeps sounding better and better. I've been longing for a more comfortable sport touring alternative to my VFR800, and this bike - on paper and in pics anyway - is pushing all the right buttons for me. Can't wait to see one. Yep, SEE ONE! Because they are bringing it to the states!

If it rides like it sounds it will, I will be an early-adopter!

WOW Decisions Decisions
Having a hard enough time trying to decide between
the S10, New Wee, or the 800XC and now this comes along
with all the options I am looking for.
I sure hope its not as much as was mentioned earlier though
Cant wait till next spring to actually see one in person.

Kinda weird to finally have more than one, maybe two brands to choose from, eh?

Don't bring it to Dallas IMS and DO NOT OFFER demos. I will be there to pick up another pair of gloves that I really like and purchased last year at the show.
