This got me out searching for fire towers here on the east coast. I used the map and found 3 that I tried to locate this past weekend. No luck finding them and they may be gone since that map was put up. I'm still searching, love fire towers.
The rentals out west sound like a great idea. I'd stay there in a heartbeat.

Thanks, that looks just like the map I had for PA but on the PA map I could actually move the pin location around, this one doesn't let me do that. I'm hoping that means the tower might actually be where the map shows it. I see one within 45 minutes of here. I'll check it out next week and see if I can find it. This is a great way to spend the fall season...even if you come home empty handed.

Very cool. How old is your kid? Mine are 8,7, and 1. My 7 year old would love doing a ride like that.

Wife (F.S. employee) worked very hard to make Little Mt Hoffman,Girard Pk ,Hirz Mtn accesible to the public. Its been a very successful program, If not they just tear them down So keep enjoying and using them!

Just plug each tower's latitude & longitude into Google Earth, and then give it a good look.

Please tell her thank you for me! I love riding to all of the different lookout sites in the area. My son wants to check out the other 2 rental sites next year.

Ask her if she knows Jimmy Lucido. He was with the FS for many years and still lives up that way.....my 2nd cousin.

Here's another one that I checked out solo. It is abandoned and may be torn down soon. Planning to camp up here next summer.
