I could have sworn there were rubber "cush" type inserts in the hub. While you appear to have studs that go thru the rear gear into the hub, my NX has pins that are attached to the rear gear. Those pins aren't threaded (like yours) and slide into the recess in the rear hub. It appears as if those rubber inserts are failing. Another thing it could be is the center hole, in the rear gear, is too big for the hub. My NX has a circlip that holds the gear to the hub. Perhaps the circlip is failing? I'm kind of stumped here. Your video seems to show more play than I would be comfortable with.

The play is not in the axial direction. The rubber inserts + rods which goes in to those rubbers (number 11 on csmnl) only secure the axial direction (if there is tension on the gear these rods make sure the forces are guided to the wheel, so if there would be any axial play, these would be to blame).
But there is like 1mm of space between the gear and the circlip. This enables the gear to have this much play. It could be caused by a wrong gear (but it was ordered new by me on wemoto.com) or maybe the circlip is failing/worn? |

So, it appears that the gear is too thin to properly be held in place by the circlip? Yeah, the circlip may be worn or the gear is made to fit multiple applications and isn't as thick as it should be. You could try a new circlip or look for a large washer that would fit into the space between the ciclip and the gear.

I can indeed make a washer to eliminate the space between the washer and the gear. But should there be no play/space at all?
Because the front sprocket/gear also allows quite some play, so i wonder if this is maybe designed like this to eliminate misalignment errors or something? |

Let me go see if I can wiggle the rear gear on my NX. I'll let you know.

Actually, I can wiggle it some! If I were to measure it, I would guesstimate the play is about 1-2mm (measured at the edge of the gear - where the chain rides). It does not move very much at all. I was also thinking that since your rear gear is new, you might have a worn hub (to allow that much movement). You could remove the rear wheel, remove the split ring (circlip) and then remove the gear. Now, you can measure the diameter of the hole in the gear and then measure the diameter of where the gear sits on the hub. Obviously, there's no way to fix the hub, if it's worn. Perhaps it's time to fabricate that washer to minimize the play. Wow, the weather there looks almost as nice as it is here! It's 73º F here right now (1:15 PM). Do you have permission to ride in those fields? Or, is that your property? Looks like a great place to explore. I am also noticing additional differences, in the bodywork, between your NX and mine. Your bodywork has quite a few more 'creases' where mine is a lot more rounded. That must be the JD09 series versus JD12 series.

I think it's not that much more than 2mm for my bike. This weekend i'm going to ask my father for his advice, he has some experience with mechanics. Could you make a movie so I have an indication of your wiggel movement? Is the rear wheel assembly the same as for mine NX? |

I can make a video but I've never posted anything to YouTube before.
Perhaps it would be small enough to mail to you?I believe our rear wheel assemblies are similar but not exactly the same. I have big pins that are connected to the rear gear. These pins slide into corresponding holes (with rubber isolators in them) in the rear hub. I believe your bike has threaded studs instead of pins. That's the only difference I noticed. Here's a link to the Rear Wheel/Brake/Suspension pdf on my blog: LINK Scroll down to page 12-5 and there's a nice exploded view of what we're discussing.

On my NX the pins are not fixed to the gear but the pins have indeed thread on one side and bolts are used to attach the pins to the gear. The pins slide in rubbers inside the hub.

Yep, that's what I was expecting you to say (at least that's how I interpreted that exploded parts view, for your NX).
I found a buyer for my NX. He'll be here tomorrow to pick it up along with the spares. Bittersweet feelings, it was a blast to ride but I'm so looking forward to the VTR.

Sorry for beeing out of date of this thread, not having internet in my appartment is making me mad, jej!
Jan, my rear hub is different to yours but it also holds the sprocket with a big circlip, if you want me to, I'll take some photos for you... And it seems that I haven't shown any of the photos of my last ride into the countryside to you.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope you like 'em! Greetings!

Leo, I could swear you've been lying to us and you really live in Iowa or Nebraska. It looks like you had a great time. Thanks for the pictures.
The NX went to Wisconsin on Saturday. The new owner plans to teach his son how to ride on it. Both were exceptionally nice to meet and I hope they enjoy it as much it as much as I did. I will pick up the VTR250 early Thursday morning. Can't wait.

I had a lot of fun last week on the NX! That much fun that my father who lives 100 km's away from me bought a dirtbike so we can ride together. The bike will stay at my place. He bought a '89 Yamaha XT350: example picture: ![]() Last week I also bought myself another treat: (sorry for the off-topic) |
