This sounds like it was one horrific crash

It shattered the rider's helmet, and the bike kept going for a couple of blocks after tossing the rider. Nasty.

Makes me think of the times I've disrespected the power of my street bikes/crotch rockets and got away with it. The consequences of wrong place at the wrong time can be tragically severe on two wheels.
Damn shame, RIP
