What YOU fail to understand is that this thread is populated by INMATES (you seen the Bicycle Thread in Sports?! There's lots of us...) who ride bicycles telling other INMATES who have shitty attitudes toward cyclists to CHILL THE FUCK OUT.

You're operating a motorized vehicle, if a cyclist fucks up your day, you're doing something wrong. Period.
+1

Oh, and see inserted comment above.

No but some of the bicyclists treat it that way. Public walkway.

I've read about this whole thread. I wish I could post something to change the minds of the folks who think pedal bikes don't belong, but I know that's well outside my powers, other cyclists here have already posted what I'd probably say.

So instead I'll just relate this short story, and say that I hope the person yelling at us was one of you pedal bike haters here.

I was finishing up a ride with a female cyling buddy. She has a GREAT ASS! We were off the back roads we had spent a pleasant day on and were on US Route 1, single file, right of the fog line, heading back to my condo, when some bicycle hating jerk yelled out the window at us, "Get off the road, you faggots!" My friend said to me, "Did he just yell what I thought he yelled?" I said "Yeah, he must not have seen you." She laughed.

So, whoever that bike hater was, by taking the opportunity to vent your spleen at a couple of cyclists riding single file ON THE SHOULDER, you missed a chance to check out one great ass, clad in tight spandex. (Mines not too shabby either, if your homophobia was just hiding your true inclinations.)

Since I got injured in Iraq I haven't been able to ride my mtn bike and I really miss it, in fact sometimes I dream of riding it again.

A few years ago I was wheelying along northbound in the bike lane of Hwy 101 and a woman on a road bike in spandex passed me at a good clip and said "showoff". A little way down the road she was stopped at a red light and as I pulled up next to her the light went green; I replied, "You're riding along a public road with that magnificent ass on full display and I'm a showoff? Puhleez!"

I've yet to meet any walker, driver, or groups of drivers that don't think they own the road.

It's dangerous out there whether on bike, moto, car, or truck. It's a risk to be on a public road.

And let's not forget the real menace out there - cell phones! (Did I just start a new reason to rant on this thread?)

Yeah, cell phones and roadways don't mix. It is even dangerous to use them as pedestrians. I see many people everyday walk right into the path of a moving car while looking at their phone. One of these days that driver wont be paying attention or wont have time to stop, and if you do survive the crash I bet you wont cross the road without looking ever again.
