Did I tell y'all I'm starting my own 'bike brand?' No? Well I am. The prototype is designed and fixin to be painted.

Keep an eye open for FN Bicycles. (get it?!)

When it gets here, I'll take some pics and post em up for ya. Right now, I'm starting with a CX 'prototype.' Given interest, I *may* end up selling em.

7 things non-cyclists should know....

A decent article

You can read the article but here are the 7 things:

1) Road cycling is scary
2) If Im not close to the very side of the road, there is a reason for it
3) Buzzing by a cyclist is extremely dangerous
4) Cutting off a cyclist is a dickhead move
5) Getting mad at a cyclist for not obeying every traffic law is cherry picking and hypocritical
6) Cycling clothes may look silly, but they are functional
7) Cycling is hard damn work

Some of ya'll non-cyclists might enjoy it.

Not all the time, maybe. But what do you call a truck mirror coming by your head with maybe 25 cm of clearance at 100 Kph?

Maybe it's a texting or whatever driver crossing over the whole road width and hitting a group of riders head-on, killing two. I came upon that scene about 5 minutes after it happened last year.

Maybe Austrian drivers are better behaved, if so, you are fortunate.

I've never considered cycling to be any more, or less, scary than any other form of road going vehicles. I've had close calls (caused a few), and seen dead folks, on practically every form of road going transport I've used and, in my experience it's not "what" you ride/drive but the "where", "when" and "how" that make the biggest impact.

If I had to rank the scariest modes of transport they'd be, for me.

1. being a passenger/pillion
2. riding a horse on the road
3. using a taxi in Moscow

Most everything else is just fun - fun with "moments" to be sure, but no where near enough to be categorised as "scary".

The Furrer is not happy

Shit for brains.

It gets more interesting.

Mayor Mark Furrer of Sunset Hills runs cyclist off the road, denies that he hit the guy and is surprised at the resulting noise.

Did I mention that there were several witnesses, a bicycle was destroyed and the cyclist suffered torn Achilles tendon and bruises?

From the cyclist via FB:
This is going to be a long post.... Sorry
I will give a brief description of events,
Coming down old Gravois road (big hill) a red Mercedes convert alb with the top down comes up next to me screaming get off my roads, get off my roads. After what seemed like ten seconds of this he whips his car to the right hitting me on the left side of my body knocking the bike out from under me. My left arm hooked the back of the passenger door and he gunned it flinging me off onto the road. This all happened around 20mph. After I got up the car behind him that thankfully did not run me over asked if I was ok, I said would you please chase him and get his plate number. What I didn't know was a truck coming the other direction saw the entire thing and did a u-turn and chased him down. I will skip the other details for now. Long story short that did a vehicle accident report and let him go???? WTF!!!!
I went up to the police station with my attorney after thinking about what just happened. Something just didn't seem right. Five cop cars.... No information for me and they let him go.
I will preface the next part by saying that the Sunset Hills police promise to do everything by the book.
From a local FB user:
UPDATE ON HIT AND RUN OF CYCLIST: I just did a 5 minute interview with one of the witnesses. He corroborates EVERYTHING Randy Murdick said. Also, the witnesses 28 year old son was also in the truck so there are THREE witnesses. In sum, the driver of the truck said he saw the Mayor turn the wheel to the right into the cyclist. He absolutely believes it was intentional and deliberate. He chased the mayor down the road and yelled at him and blinked his lights to get him to pull over. He could not believe the mayor got away without a ticket. At no time did he ever see Randy grab the car. His hands were on the bike. The Mayor's story is a total lie.
