A dirt way into the park...(one of just two or three left)

After ripping nice moist (rained the week before) dirt for about 45 minutes we were in the park (the secret way) and heading north on 41 towards the Majestic valley..

In the morning Cevin said he passed two Bmw riders which I happened to see parked at the breakfast spot here in town.. well after our dirt entrance look who comes up behind us when we hit the pavement..

they followed us until we traveled through the tunnel.... (bad photo)

aand missed the turn right after said tunnel which you need to make to take in THE MOST amazing view on the west cost

They passed us and went down 1/2 mi to a lower parking lot near to view El Cap... while we grabbed a guy to shoot one or two for us...

Those guys really missed out but seemed to be pained by following two guys on 640s with knobbies.. one passed on a double (lucky cause the flat hats love to write tickets) before the tunnel and missed this parking lot.. it was now about 830 am and we had to now travel through the valley, up... up higher
... lots of pine, cedar and Granite on our path following the footsteps of thosuands of Mono and Miwok indians..

Yeah! That's more like it! I'm ready for more, please

The bikes look fan-frikkin'-tastic, by the way!

Rising out of the crane flat area we were headed to olmstead point http://www.emilive.com/viewer/3114/29_highres.html at 8500ft which gives the road crews fits getting cleared

The snow that hit a week before had stuck...

Did I mention we planned to ride around Mono Lake?

First we stopped at the Mobil station at 395 for lunch which happens to have the best food on 395 between tahoe and mammoth

I had scouted out a marked forest service road from google earth and a Inyo national forest map ... (THAT I FORGOT).. Cevin thought I wanted to hit dirt right when we got to 395 just to the right of this shot 1/2 mi.. we tried but had to turn back.. getting back on 395 we made a left at hwy 120

and headed east past old volcano's (Mono Craters)

we made left just prior to Mono Mills a site and part of the benton bodie railroad that we wanted to kind of follow on the backside of Mono lake..

during our navagation of dead reconing and recall we actually passed a camp turnout with a 450 or 525 ktm with saddle bags and no rider near... he may have taken off in a vehicle but we didnt wait around as the unknown was calling... we had actually passed east of this area on organised rides "the Sierra Safari" but it was about 10 miles east of here on a powerline road heading towards Hawthorne Nv.. so we didnt know what was in store..

I didnt take in to consideration it is a lake... duh.. what I mean to say is it is REALLY SANDY

... which my bike does not mind much but Cevins lc4 hates... if it was in the winter or after a really good storm not a one day event like we had the week before it may be doable on a larger 950 + bike but we had our hands full and after a couple wrong turns and a drunk jeeper.. we made it out of the sand after about 15 miles and hit a old farm road..

Cevin catchin up

Mono lake to Hwy 160 to Bodie

Back out on to a main road leading to hwy 160 from a highly unused sandy dandy..

Then up to Bodie

The area has not changed that much since I rode there in 1966-1970 time frame.

Some times I rode to work from June Lake to Lee Vinning on the pole line road on a CZ 250.

That whole area was great to explore by yourself on 2 wheels when you're young and dumb!

HOLY SHIT! I'm still alive and riding.

Thanks Guys, I really love that area.....
