Under favorable circumstances it snows at least once in every single month in the year, in the little town of Mono. So uncertain is the climate in summer that a lady who goes out visiting cannot hope to be prepared for all emergencies unless she takes her fan under one arm and her snow shoes under the other. When they have a Fourth of July procession it generally snows on them, and they do say that as a general thing when a man calls for a brandy toddy there, the bar keeper chops it off with a hatchet and wraps it up in a paper, like maple sugar. And it is further reported that the old soakers haven't any teeth—wore them out eating gin cocktails and brandy punches. I do not endorse that statement—I simply give it for what it is worth—and it is worth—well, I should say, millions, to any man who can believe it without straining himself. But I do endorse the snow on the Fourth of July—because I know that to be true.

Little Nellie Falls to Briceburg-Mariposa-Miami trails then Home

Little Nellie Falls and creek crossing just outside the park ... Great spot!

Others visit this area and left a picnic table .. snack time and then farther west on Old coulterville road.. where we took a wrong turn and ended up ...

Just above El Portal where the view is so good they put a fire lookout.. Trubull peak.. looking west

Nice view of the valley looking east from this shot

They actually had a fire in the canyon last year here.. On both sides but the north side was scorched pretty good..

after the lookout we headed towards Briceburg Rd on Coulterville.. and ended up at what the local indians thought was the entance to the center of the world..

This Marker just happens to be in front of a cave.. Bower Cave to be exact.. http://www.grovelandmuseum.org/Bower-Cave.html if you visit you need permission and a key from Stanuslaus rangers..

Next we shot out west from here back towards the Merced river and a great road down to the bottom of the canyon..

After making it down to the Merced river we took hwy 140 from Briceburg bridge almost to Mariposa and made a shortcut over Triangle road then a quick left for the last dirt of the three day trip running up Chowchilla Mountain Road and back into the Miami trails area..

We call this section Chinese log ride

This trip was a great well needed get away .. this photo was the last taken of the trip.. fitting in that we took this road out of oakhurst at 530 am three days before ! The really funny thing is we forgot our maps ! I had this thing mapped in my head from BLM maps and google earth and Cevin actually took his new GPS but we never really needed it as we were EXACTLY where we were and when we needed to be..

Maybe 2012 will be more extensive.. whos in?

Not sure if you're looking for riding partners or report readers

But I'd sure like to ride along if the scheduling thing can be worked out. I did a little piece of that last June and it just whetted my appetite.

Here is a tv show I just watched about the area and its worth a look..

Greg, the guy that does this Motion tv show, is a friend of my wife Shawnessy. He has a great show. Here is a link to the rest of the episodes

http://livewellnetwork.com/Motion/ep...t=lwhd_Episode

quite a few shows are shot here near my house in the sierras and are accessible within a couple hours..

Already want to do a spring trip as soon as the pass opens!
