National Wildlife anyone?

I proceeded down alligator alley with caution only to be greeted by another huge field...

No alligators here, so I'll keep going. This field is about 50 acres or so. (That's big in South Carolina) When I reached the far corner...

I saw water, but no gator... The beautiful Lake Marion.

More driving...

OH, what's this? Nope, no gator.

After more driving and I ran into this sign!

And this fella!!!!!

He is about 12 feet long and not at all worried about me taking his picture...

Huh, what this car stopped for?

Just a little guy, you have to look hard to see. Disappointing after the first one!

I stopped here for one more look at a gator but not luck. Beautiful pond though.

This is a beautiful property and I enjoyed my trip through it a great deal. I'll definitely come back. Besides this NWF, there are plenty of cool dirt roads to explore.

The End

I enjoyed this installment! I placed a tag a year or so ago in the SC Midlands TOR at the Indian Mound on Fort Watson Rd, which also has a Santee National Wildlife Refuge sign at its entrance, but that's way the heck from where you were. Isn't it great to find these little gems so close to home?! I'm looking forward to going here.

Thanks! It's a Gem indeed. Nice to know someone's enjoying my pictures. To be honest, It's been many years since I've accessed this part of the Refuge from land. I grew up around here and mostly I remember visiting from the lake side. (There's good bream fishing in these parts.) I'll definitely go back though, and highly recommend it to anyone passing by. Including the J&E Supperette, just maybe not a huge lunch like I had.

Here's the meal:

I was about an hour from home and stuffed... so the ride home turned into a stroll. I had been wanting to visit the near by wildlife refuge. They had just completed a sort-of renovation and I hadn't seen the new digs.

Here's the entrance. A little bland...

...with some nice interpretive signs.

The parking area was fairly clean. Complements to the NWF employee who looks after the place. After ensuring there was adequate free nitrogen in the soil in the corner of the parking lot, I headed in to the park.

And was greeted by this expansive vista...

...beautifully managed succession habitat, also known as a field.

This place is lovely

a nice pond and fresh water marsh

I noticed this sign behind me

and shortly down the road I saw this:

this could be interesting.
Nice bike. I've got one just like it. I bought my from American Biker too.

Clearly you have excellent taste. BTW, the white Tiger is the fastest.

Lowcountry rides

Nice bike and nice photos. I've got the same bike. I got mine this past January. Haven't been on any trips yet, just commute to work and back. I am orignally from the Holly Hill, Eutawville, and Vance area. A lot of your photos look familar. Are there any local clubs or groups that do Adv type rides in the Low Country or South East? My email is m.hughes.007@hotmail.com. Shoot me an email if you have any info.
thanks

lowcountry rides indeed!

Hey guys, I've been lurking here looking at all the cool pics and thought I'd intro myself.
I too have a Tiger, and I too, got mine at American Biker.
Got mine in early May. Mine is orange (like a tiger!)
I would like to get together with you guys and do some riding.
I've done most of my riding in the Nat Forest here on my DRZ and started growing a little bored with it. So the Tiger was the answer for opening up some new riding opportunities.

I think I might have seen you Marsh Tiger up around Lake Marion in April. I was coming back from the lake pulling my boat. A white Tiger turned onto the road I was on and if it was you, you probably laughed if you saw me gawking your ride!
I had just decided I wanted the orange Tiger and I got all fired up when I saw it (you?)!
Anywho, send me a PM and we'll see if we cant hook-up for some riding.
See ya.

Hello
Really like the pictures. I got inspired to take my Tiger out today after I picked it up from American Biker and just wander around. Found myself at Mepkin Abby. Figures the camera I took with me had a dead battery. Thanks for the inspiration. I look forward to meeting you guys on the 14th.

Hey Marsh Tiger. You said that you had a set of bar risers that you were using at last months dinner. Would you be interested in selling them?
