Should know soon, new models are announced in late August. Looks like it will be available, plated is not as likely.

Check post #400 in this thread. US model and manual show full lights and plate. When I said that I read that it would not be street legal, I was shouted down, and post #400 showed up immediately.

Sure looked street legal to me. I wonder what, if anything, has changed?

My only clue on the street legal deal was a post that KTM only applied for "off road" approval from EPA. Not street legal EPA status like the 350exc/f has.

Ossa ships the Explorer with full lights but as a 2-stroke is does not have EPA street legal status. The Free Ride could be the same deal.

I thought the reason it was taking so friggen long to bring it to the states was to get that street legal EPA approval!

As stolen from KTMtalk.com

Infer from this what you will; The freeride is now appearing on the US section of KTM.com:

^ I infer that they did not mention a thing about a paved road. I just wanted to be able to hit a few connectors without getting ticketed. Plates in California work.

maybe a mistake by clicking the above link directly.

If you click the above link, it has a photo of the freeride on the home page, but, there is no main tab for the freeride and when you select the USA site (refresh) the photo is gone.

go directly to ktm.com and select the usa site. There is no freeride and no freeride tab.

But if you convert the photo pixels to an audio file and play it backwards it sounds like " Freeride comeing to USA, walrus, walrus, walrus".

I saw that there was an Ossa dealer 'close' in Copperpolis and was thinking about taking a look but...

I was able to get my 250XC plated a few weeks back and was blasting around on her in San Jose (too much fun, it should be illegal) during the break in period.

Even it the 350 freeride wasn't street legal, a few States would, with the right safety equipment, allow a person to get it plated and ride w/o much hassle.

So even if the bike couldn't be sold as street legal in places like CA, I could imagine there being a secondary market to make them street legal for residents of places a little less restrictive.
