Thanks a bunch for the kind comments, they help keep me motivated! I'm really excited about how it's shaping up!

Dorzok - We have lots of fun toys at our house! The bug is a '62, she was the DD until a few years ago when the DR and then Strom took that place. Now I'm free to make her all nice and pretty and not worry about driving in the rain, salt etc. I'd post more pictures of the bug (kinda my pride and joy) but that would only complicate my Kawi thread

The Miata is one of my roommate's DD, a '93 I believe? I fucking hated Miatas until I drove one.... they're the tits The coolest gay car ever (or are they the gayest cool car?)

oil blocking cap

cool bike man! I've got two f9 bikes in the garage that i've wanted to do up like yours!
I've read that the crankcase oil lubricates only the left side of the crank and the two cycle oil lubricates the right(where that gallery is).
I wanted to block off mine too and just premix in the gasoline tank myself till i read that.
unlesss i'm wrong but i didn't want to damage the crank so i left it stock.

Hey Mitey, nice bike! Great inspiration-where did you source the Chinese shocks? I've got a few projects that might be improved with cheap shocks.
Curious how they'll feel after riding the 70's boingers.

Markk - I've thought about (and am still considering) the aftermarket carb/filter, partly because my carb cover is scuffed all to hell. But right now, I've got the stock carb, but no real $$ for a new one... and I have no idea what will fit!

Euro - the shocks came from eGay, about $80 + shipping

Best trick, measure the one on the bike at the mount end then maybe add 2mm to the size - 30mm bore, 32mm replacement carb. If you want to keep cost down, stay with the biggest carb you can get with the same mount size. I don't know if the Kaw is a spigot mount or not. If the stock carb has a clamp built in the end, not a problem, you can always get the plain ended Mikuni and use a piece of radiator hose to mount it. When I put a 32 on the Bultaco a friend made a spigot/flange manifold to bolt to the stock manifold, then I bought a radiator hose that fit over the carb and manifold (same size) then cut off what I needed and hose clamped it on the carb and on the manifold. Quick & easy.

The actual flat trackers did 38mm I think. That was kind of standard on the big bores. 250s ran 34mm and 125-200 ran 32mm. I'd say look for a 32-36mm Mikuni VM so that you have best jet availability. The old 250 MX bikes ran 32mm so I doubt you'd be starving the bike for gas and probably have decent lower range power. I don't think the 38 would be the best for general riding and a mostly stock engine.

I would love to play with one of those Kaws just because I liked the rotary valve and the carb hanging out there.

I saw those shocks, but shied away when all they mentioned was adjustment by adding nitrogen. I know they're cheap shocks (although it is hard to believe they'd be worse than most older twin shock type shocks), but I saw nothing about any damping adjustments. Do they have any damping adjustment?

By the way, Woody Kyle used to be the man for the old Big Horn flattrackers back in the 70s. They were rockets until they siezed. That one Metro Racing Big Horn that Donzilla has is a Woody Kyle replica.

You can adjust them via air or the spring. Having not tried them yet, I have no idea how they'll work. They DO seem quite firm though.

No Prob Mitey.

I was wondering is your bike a 6 volt or a 12 volt?
Mine a 6 and i hate it, do you know anything about converting it over cause my pocket flashlight is brighter than this thing!
