We're practically neighbors. I'm just a klick or two north of you off Doniphan.

I more than likely won't be able to leave until very early Friday morning though... unless I can swap my schedule around.

Hey y'all, just so you've been warned, the Hillbillies have already arrived in Colorado. There weren't any border guards on Hwy 125.

No (but i've seen this mystery KLR) I'm either on a black vstrom or a dr350 w/ acrebis tank. I'm just NE of where Montoya and Doniphan meet.

Was checking my chain earlier today and realized dam I need a new rear tire on the wee! I'm new to El Paso you gots any recommendations? I imagine my odds of finding one local before next week are pretty dam slim.

SW Moto Tire or Rocky Mtn ATV could probably get you the tire by Friday, I know a place in LC you can get it on if nothing more local.

I don't think you would have any problem with street tires and your bike. You can take about any car over it.

Which direction (E-W OR W-E) is easiest for Ophir, Cinammon, and Engineer for a 1150 with a some off road experience ?

Not much difference. Engineer might be a bit easier from West to East, with one tricky switchback for a GS. The East side is a bit looser. On Cinnamon, there are some tight turns going up on the East side, but the West side has some loose rocks (big gravel) going up towards the top. Ophir is also maybe easier East to West, with some looser rocks on the West side.

You'll have fun no matter what, I guarantee it.

Ophir is easier East to West (Silverton to Ophir). The Ophir side is steep with rocks.
Cinnamon I prefer west to east (Silverton to Lake City). There are three steep switchbacks on the Lake City side that are a bit easier going down on the big bikes.
Engineer- probably east to west. I wouldn't suggest the stretch that goes down to hwy 550 a few miles south of Ouray. That stretch is a steep/rocky/bugger. You can continue down to Animas Forks and the split for Cinnamon.
I've done all three on the big bikes. And dropped big bikes on each one at least once.
I'm thinking about Ophir Pass as the beginning of my big bike tour on Friday morning. See ya up in Silverton.
