I guess that depends on how important gas is/availability, if its important then its good enough for a note. Due to availability on the TLH I noted gas stops and stopped at every one just in case. Don't let something as simple as gas ruin your trip when it was easily planned for. I don't think you can over plan but I certainly think it can be under planned.

you might want to consider keeping the dorm room while you are riding to Prudhoe and back. gives you a place to lighten your load for a few days and the room is there whenever you roll in from Deadhorse without having to deal with checking back in. Did that in 09 and was happy I did.

UAF will store your gear without you keeping a room for the time you are gone up north. At least they did for the 12 years I oversaw housing on campus; but I left a few months ago so better check.

There is no such thing as too much engineer - only a narrow minded (focused) engineer. It looks good Bob. Between the tree falling on the house and an odd medical problem, I've been too distracted to focus on the trip and I really appreciate you taking up the challenge.

That is what happens when I have wine and work a plan. I am at 90% for the next plan. I took your advice about Fairbanks to Prudhoe bay. I am thinking about heading straight for Kalispell, and hitting Grand Teton, Yellowstone and other sights on the way up. I am looking at avoiding the northern part of the ALCAN due to the traffic and road conditions. I am thinking about day trips to Skagway and to Haines. I just got my copy of Milepost. So I will be hitting that hard before I come up with a final plan. I agree that the plan will only last a couple of days before I have to toss it out.

I don't necessarily agree because it really depends on how well you understand the trip, your capabilities, and everyone on the rides capabilities. My trips so far have been pretty close to the plan and if anything I was faster than the plan with extra time to burn.
