XR650L big finned head kit.

I've been thinking of building a big finned head kit for you XR650L owners.
You would have to find a good tig welder in your area to weld them on or send me your head and I can do it for you at a discounted rate for the ADV members here.

The question is would anyone be interested in a kit like this that you would have to weld on"DIY"????? Here's one I built a while back.
If I get enough interest I will start building the kit for youse fella's..
Also some tall valve cover caps like we used to run on our old RS600 flat trackers that are finned about an 1 1/4 tall or so?

Give me some feed back please what you guys would like.

I would though...we get good tig welding on stainless...is it the same welder for aluminum or is it a different type of tig welding

sorry for the stupid question...

also do the big finned caps fit in a stock bike/frame or do you need to modify anything?l

I would love a set of the caps...do they aid in cooling a bit?

I'd be interested. Anyway It could be bolt on? I know that it probably would not give as good of cooling but would still be effective and look good. I'd like one.

Have you done temperature testing ? How much temp drop in what conditions ?

do a kit for the xr400 too and i'll be in for those too!

There are a whole bunch of 400ex riders out there and they are still making those. Same motor.

I can't speak for CW, but I have ran the Bigfins for years. I have always had big bore, high compression motors that were jetted pretty spot on. Friends with similar motors and jetting have all ran 15-30 degrees warmer in similar riding conditions. Team Honda used these on all of their desert bikes back in the RFVC Baja days, so I am guessing they work, and it only makes sense. What really does not make sense to me is why here are not larger fins on the cylinder where the heat is generated. In essence the heat must transfer up to the head to be dispersed by the fins, which I am sure still works, but has me thinking about the fins on the cylinder. Is there a solution on the horizon oh great wizard of cyledom?

I could make a big finned head kit for the XR400 if I had a 400 head which I don't right now darnit..

The real heat is not generated by the friction of the piston rings rubbing against the cylinder walls, but rather by the combustion in the cylinder head. The oil temps rise because that heat is transferred to the oil that lubricates and cools the valve mechanisms.

I think every little bit would help and it would allow you to run a big cam in the future.
