Good to know, if I do make it, I will have my little doggie with me, and we will be camping

Although, my plans have changed- I am relocating to AZ at the end of this month, so my route will no longer be from WA

I will have to wait and see how things go as far as money and time to determine if I can make it, but- I am hoping to!

Great news! Now all I have to do is get Harvee the VW bus running, so that Gingerl can bring the pups in that.

Tee shirt ordering page is up!

http://fattees-printing.com/WestFest/index.html

As usual, pre order shirts until July 14th, and the shirts will be at the event, with your name on your order. This helps save waste; we print just what is needed (plus a few more for the slackers).

This year, one sticker is included with each shirt ordered. You can also order additional stickers, and there will be a few extras at the event.

OK, booked a meal package, now just have to decide if I'm tent camping or getting a cabin/room. (if one is still available)

Read more carefully

One is WestFest (July, in Colorado). The other is WetFest (September, in Washington)

650 Adventure Route

I am a ADVrider total n00b and local to Woodland Park area (but work allowing I plan to attend Westfest 2012)

My question: Is it ok to post up - suggest a route/ride at Westfest??

I reviewed the posted rides but did not see my perfect, absolute, ideal ride. (Not that that’s really required)

Anyway, doing all of trail717 and similar, dry, soft, steep, sandy, wooped out ATV trails are a bit beyond what I & my old weighty 640 are up for. (I be old and sort of mid-level in the rusty dirt bike skills)

And while the more ‘road’ oriented rides will be great fun (I have done bits and pieces of some of them) the ol 640 enduro, while technically capable, wants more dirt.

So last Sunday I recorded a long looping track, would start/end at M Lazy C Ranch—about 150 miles (about 20 miles-or less are paved)

I call it the 650 Adventure Route. I think it’s the perfect all day ride on a 650 thumper in the hands of a rider comfortable on all types of dirt.

Doing this route on a smaller bike would be fun, but might be a tad tame for quite a bit of it. And depending individual rider dirt-skills, doing it on a bike with two cylinders (but with a 21in front wheel) could be quite “fun & challenging” in a few sections/miles all the way up to not-recomended ie:“way above pay grade

So…I do not want to step on toes, am I out of line here ---or should I continue/share more, pics, route info etc??

Heck yeah. Post up and let the chips fall where they may. After reading thru this thread, you can't possibly think that any of the regulars here are anything other than pussycats? Well, except maybe the guy with the cattle prod....

Your route sounds like something lots of people will be doing, altho I'd bet it's already at least partially on the ride list.

more 650 route

Did a bit of gpx file track recording today for the 650 route I am working on. Took a few more pictures around the tr 717 area.

Sections of the route are quite big bike friendly, but these sections are just used to get to more mid-size 650 thumper oriented type fun.

Virtually the entire 717 area is made up of decomposed granite (about 1/3 to ½ of the route is in the 717 area) Today was just a little rainy and the traction was great. But the normal dry conditions make for 4-8 inch deep sand on the back trails and marble-like conditions on the corners of the smooth hard-pack connector roads. I am trying to pick roads that a rider comfortable with various dirt conditions and on a 650 size bike will find easy to upper-mid level, totally enjoyable, and maybe a short section or two of fun challenge.

There was a big fire (Hayman Fire) in the area a few years ago http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayman_Fireground

Lots of elevation change on the entire 150 mile+ route -- about 7500 ft to just over 10,000 ft
