Since I am lame and can't remember names, I will just say thanks again guys, I owe somebody a new front tube! I had a blast, and I LOVE the 717 area! I can't wait to go back!
Now must sleep and hydrate and get ready for RMAR!! WOOHOO!
...that was me with the tube. I came away with clean hands after the tire work, however, so I still think I got the better end of that deal. Glad I could help!

Nice to meet you at that lay-by Ratman. I was on the GS just 'out for a ride'. I didn't end up riding the pass, but rode 67 (very nice and twisty) as well as W Creek Road back into the springs. Glad Georgia pass worked out for you!

(this was on Tarryall Road)

Raining like hell for the last hour....I'm caught about an 1/8th mile from my tent in the cowboys lounge by myself using their web. It was sunny when I came in here. I may drowned before the nights over.

A few more pics from the weekend.

Home sweet home for a couple days.

Chow time.

I'd like to know the story behind this thing.

Let the de-n00bing begin.

There were two at the ranch. They are decommissioned personnel carriers from South Africa. Some Sheriffs office in CO purchased them and had them shipped here with the intention of fixing them, but never got around to it, so the Lazy C decided to buy them and pick up where the Sheriffs office left off. I'm not sure if they are running yet or not.

The armor is pretty impressive. The other one has a fair amount of bullet dings in it.

Camping fees

Sorry guys, I was under the impression that camping was $20 per person, but it turns out it was $20 per tent. So if you shared a tent and paid for two, PM me and I'll refund your extra tent fee.

What a great time! Big thanks to Pablo for organizing and everyone else for participating. I learned a lot in those two days...how to ride with one hand in the rain to shield my face with the other.....how to burp the throttle on water bars to jump them instead of slowing down....how to roll-start the bike on downhills by popping the clutch....how to clear a flooded engine and straiten bent mirrors after crashing. Good times!

Here are a few of my better pictures.

Headed up to Lake George at the crack of dawn.

Somewhere between the M Lazy C and Tarryall Road.

The middle of nowhere.

Headed up Boreas Pass.

Top of Boreas.

Top of Georgia after coming up from Breck.

Okay, I'm home and sucking on a Guinness, so all is well. Laurie's wifely worries aside, I'm happy to have been able to finish the ride to Canon City with everyone, and I was fine riding back to camp on my own. I felt bad enough having added some unneccessary drama to the ride to begin with, and letting everyone finish Phantom Canyon without worrying about me was certainly my preferrence.

This was a well-deserved lesson to myself about being arrogant on the ride (since I was very familiar with the road) and going into a gravel turn too hot trying to get set up to take photos of everyone as they went by.

When the bike went down, I felt the right foot turn out and the tibia snap hard. The foot was still turned out, but I straightened it as soon as I got up, and that's when the other guys rode up to me. I was able to put a little weight on it but the pain was intense. Once I was back on the bike, I felt pretty good as long as I didn't need the rear brake. Getting off the bike in Canon City was bad, but once I was riding again back to camp I felt better.

As I've done in the past, I would have asked for assistance if/when I felt I needed it.

Getting my boot off at our cabin was the most pain I've ever done to myself but it felt better once the boot was off and the swelling didn't get much worse.

The tibia was completely snapped into three pieces in mid-shin and the fibula spiral fractured near the knee. Surgery Sunday morning putting a rod down through the tibia and screwing the large broken pieces to it. After next weekend, I'll go back and the doc will determine if it needs to be fixed further, casted, or if I can keep it in the rigid (but removeable) boot. It'll get casted, probably.

I'll be at RMAR in Silverton next weekend where I hope to actually fulfill my duties as the de-noober. I've got the Adventure Sword and the prize wheel ready to go.

Thanks for all the PM's and nice thoughts. I did it to myself and I'm okay with accepting the consequences. Pain and I are old friends and we're getting along just fine.

The Guinness is helping.

Marty

GPS track and profile for anyone that is into these things.

This was our Saturday ride over LaSalle pass and around Tarryall. Remember I rode it twice as it is the route I took to get OVER to WF in the first place, so double the mileage.

Looks like what is now called the Marauder: http://youtu.be/cDoRmT0iRic

Looks like the WestFest was a real success. I think I may have seen some of you all on Georgia Pass on Saturday. Next year, I promise myself...

Great riding with you, CJ!....I had a great time on Sunday, conditions were perfect, what fun hitting the whoops, and roosting the berms, easy lines to follow!

Good Times, Dirty Doug and AimHi were great ride companions......looking forward to future rides!
