Happy-Trail panniers
Powerlet 12V charging outlet
MSR 1L spare fuel bottles

The stock seat has been fine for me but I'm probably going to throw on some higher bars. Maybe heated grips too. Open to suggestions from those in the know.

Her Charlie. Honored that your first post on ADV is here!

Personally, I wouldn't drop all that money you are planning on spending on luggage, etc, without FIRST upgrading the stock seat. I do understand a few claim acceptance with the stocker, but I cannot imagine it. Splurge on a Sargent or Corbin and ride in comfort.

I find the stock seat to be more comfortable than both sargent and corbin that I have sat on.

ok.......

We aren't talking racing, spending short times in the seat.

-What do you weigh? Lighter folk seem to be ok with the stock soft foam better than bigger people.
-What is the furthest you have ridden a stock SV seat? Not talking race time. Few care to race on more than a rubber pad.
-What is the furthest you have ridden on a Corbin saddle?
-What is the furthest you have ridden on a Sargent?

I would think your experience and response to those questions would be telling. Sitting down on someone's bike that has a Corbin or Sargent mounted on it means squat.

30k, a couple long trips (couple weeks at a time). on the stock seat, weight 170 with a bony butt. Both sargent and corbin were both uncomfortable just sitting on them. The problem with seats is the investment is high to just test ride it for 1000 miles or so. If the seat aint broke, dont fix it.

Different seats for different butts.

On my KLR the corbin is perfect and the stock sucks, on the fz1, the stock was ok and the cobin sucked.

Has any one had their seat done by "Great Day to Ride"?
Cost wise seams like it may be a good compromise.

My 02 stock seat drove me crazy. I put a bead rider on it, and that helped.

Now on my 03 stock seat, I'm comfortable. Granted, I've only been on it for 2 hours max so far, but I have no problems with it yet. I was surprised.

At 5'8 and 160 lbs, I like the stock seat over the factory jell.

I'm 25 years old and 145lbs, so that might be it. You've got to refill the tank every 200mi anyway so walking around should help. I also sit all the way back at the widest part, resting against the pillion for some extra support. I probably just don't know what I'm missing with a good seat.

Me, 195lbs, stock seat was uncomfortable quickly. The OEM Gel is comfortable enough, and add a bit of legroom.

Danimal.... I mostly followed your advice.

MUCH more sturdy. $10.

nearly there man. Don't quit now. Take those bitches back off, round the ends carefully and smooth them, then clean and paint black.

Well, here's my '02 650S in my current (and temporary) touring setup. I just started riding last season, and between June and December 15th (last ride for me for the season) I put 23k miles on her :)

I figure over the next couple months, I'll be fabricating some sort of rack system and hard bags. For a top box, has anyone tried a T-Box?

Ed.

EDIT:

So far the stock seat has done me well, (I'm 6'1", 235 lbs) and have done 3 consecutive 14 hour days for my longest ride. (3500 mile round trip).

Well, here's us in St. Catherine's ON where I drove from Ottawa to buy her:

My first "getting to know her trip" just outside Quebec City:

Eastern Ontario at a little War Museum:

My first multi-day trip, to NYC, Boston, Washington DC, Toronto ON, Kingston ON, & Aberdeen MD for Bimmerfest East (had a blast being on a Japanese bike for a German show):
