Piute & Jawbone info please

Planning a trip with a group Nov 12-15 and heard/saw pictures of the Piutes above Jawbone. Anyone have some knowledge of the area? Camping in Piutes? Rideable from Jawbone? We're looking for a place to camp/stage.
Thanks....

They have closed a lot of the good stuff in jawbone. Fences everywhere. And locals chase people out of the piutes.

This late in the year the Piutes could be closed. You're pretty high in elevation. We will stage out of my friends property in Havilah and it will be over 100 degrees, head up to the hills and it can be in the high 70's and raining.

The forecast is calling for light snow above 5000ft in the local mountains tomorrow.

Yeah, I've plowed through a drifts up there We went up there once in February, and it had snowed a couple of inches the day before. It was so cold that the snow was completely dry, and it was still dusty following someone. Froze our asses off, we did.

It is almost a requirement to ride the Piutes with someone who knows the area.

Many have spent the night, not their intention, in the Piutes for a variety of reasons.

I rode there several weeks ago from Lake Isabella with a group of good riders and one who was familiar with the trails. I marked out a route on my GPS and carried a map of the area. We rode 17 miles of single track and it took five of us, all good riders, about three hours. We spent most of the time in 1st gear. We then rode from Wolstaff Meadows on graded dirt roads to Jawbone. Then back to Isabella on paved road. We started riding at 9 a.m. and got back to the trucks at 5 p.m.

Had we ridden all trails that day and not gotten on the graded dirt road or pavement, it would have taken about six hours longer to complete the loop.

I have extremely high regard for those who can ride all the single track in the Piutes. This is a group of very talented riders. I can only ride some of the single track and have to be very selective.

If you are looking for some of the best and most extreme single track in all of California, you will find it in the Piutes. Just make sure you are prepared. A guide is highly recommended.
