2 Tigers, a Bandit and a Scooter take a Fall tour through the Trinity Alps
Summer went by fast this year. Too fast. Time for one last trip.....
Alderpoint Rd coming out of Garberville. I've been wanting to ride this road for a couple years.... Definitely Tiger country, and the scenery was outstanding... That's Brad and Jack - they're both on ADV somewhere. ![]() ![]() ![]() Not much grub out this way, but the Mad River Burger Bar does not disappoint... and yes, that is the back of a trailer.... the beer next door wasn't bad either.... ![]() Day 2 finds us up on South Fork Mt / Titlow Hill Rd.... 54 miles of ridgetop riding with great views and almost no other vehicles... oh, and one bear (no pic, he was big though, and fast) ![]() ![]() Yes, thinks Brad to himself, they made this road, and it is good.... ![]() 2 Tigers came to a fork in the road, and took them both, because they both were very, very good.... ![]() That afternoon we made our way up 96 and then east through Somes Bar, another road I've been targeting for a while.... ![]() ![]() Looked, and felt like Fall... ![]() ![]() Then, we had this stretch of perfect pavement and sweepers... 30 miles and not a single other vehicle did we see..... ![]() Day 3 Cristiano joined us on his scooter... fortunately he bought a Multistrada this weekend... good thing because he was embarassing us on our liter bikes..... sheesh... couple shots on Platina Rd (bike specs in the distance in the second pic) ![]() ![]() Alas, our little 4 day adventure had to come to an end, but only after strafing the 22 miles of Hwy 1 west of Leggett, and coming out at the gorgeous California coast. ![]() A good time was had by all.... Brian

My wife and I rode that same stretch from Legget to Ft Bragg on highway 1 this summer, that is one twisty and fun ride. I dont think we got over 40mph on that section, my wife won't push her ride that hard, probably why I am still alive now when we ride our own bikes togather.

The stretch between Ft Bragg and Fortuna is pretty amazing. Not only do you get 22 miles of perfect twisties between Leggett and the coast, but you also get the gorgeous coastal ride along 1 at one end, and the Avenue of the Giants at the other. Aren't many better ways to spend an afternoon on two wheels than that....

Sure, out of Cloverdale on 128 to Mendocino, Hwy 1 to Leggett, north on 101 to Garberville, east out of Garberville on Alderpoint Rd (pretty bumpy, don't ride your HD if you got one) to Van Duzen Rd to Mad River. north out of Mad River on FS Rd1 which turn into 4N12 which appears to turn into Last Chance Trail (follow signs to Berry Summit / 299) eventually turns into Titlow Hill Rd. East on 299 to Willow Creek, north on 96 to Somes Bar, east on Salmon River Rd to Cecilville Rd to Hwy 3. South on 3 to Weaverville, then east on 299 to Redding, and south on Platina Rd to 36. 36 west to Wildwood, north on Wildwood Rd to Hayfork, south on 3, west on 36 to Fortuna, south on 101 to Avenue of the Giants, then 101 to Leggett and back down Hwy 1 to 128 (repeat of opening).
You won't be disappointed...

Note: This road may be closed by snow... it is not plowed all the way through. I saw snow on Titlow hill yesterday, not sure how deep it is. |
