Kentucky Riders

Noob to the forum. I live in Louisville KY and looking to see if there are any adventure riders in the area. Like to find riders and places to ride nearby.

welcome

Bigyammy:

The canned answer is that there is a yahoo group of riders within KY that share information on an irregular basis about rides around the area. There are a few groups of riders that you can track on the regional forum under Central that ride between KY and IN, which you've found. I have been wandering around central KY trying for find places to ride, starting with my home county of Lincoln, without much success. So far, the only gravel road that I can find is on private property, but I continue looking and wandering around. I ride a Vstrom and am new to adventure riding. I have been riding for many years but trying to expand my horizons into uneven areas of dirt, gravel, etc.

Welcome to the forum!

It all depends on how much time you have because I don't think there is anything really that close to Louisville. There are gravel/fire/4wd roads in Daniel Boone south of Somerset and between Strearns and Monticello. Also around McKee. There's even some stuff near Red River Gorge. Near Madison, IN there is a nice loop you can do that is an easy mix of pavement and gravel but fun nonetheless. I'm sure there are some tracks on here somewhere for that. The Yahoo group is probably your best bet though (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/kyadvriders/).

I have been on some gravel roads close to Crab Orchard. Saylor rd. 1 mile east on old 150 . Possom Kingdom rd. north out of Broadhead. Go to Mt Vernon take 1249 south to Pango then east , it will take you over to 25 along Rockcastle river. In northern Casey county there is Sand Knob Lookout and Elkcave rd. You could end up at Penn's Store near Gravel Switch. Try this site for maps ukcc/uky/edu/maps , old county maps. Just enough to get you out there.
