I've got the paypal button up on the site. If you plan to ride go to www.arkansas500.com and pay your $60.

Scotty,
Check out Mulberry Mountain Resort. It's on Hwy 23 about 5 miles from Byrds.
It's not on the river, but up on a mountain.
It's a great place, run by good people.
LOTS of room.
Electricity, water, internet (at the office), a shower house like a Hilton.
Cabins to rent for those who would like (or if it rains) [they are not real cheap though, but nice]
I stay there often. They usually allow two tents per site.
Very reasonable camp sites and I'm sure they would cut you a group deal.
They have one LARGE Lodge house that will sleep about 15 people very comfortably with a BIG OL fireplace and kitchen. Great for large groups that might like to get out of the weather. (April Fools RIde 2008 - 6 inches of rain over the weekend)
They may or may not have fire wood, have to talk to them about that.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I've never been there but I was kinda tentatively planning on stayng there anyway since it was just up the road from the original planned spot.

Man Scotty, I'm BURNING that I am missing the ride this year. DANG!!!

You really should check with Mulberry Mnt. Don't mean to be mean to Byrds, cause I love them too, but Mulberry is quite a bit more "classy" than Byrds.
I think the guy's name is Josh, but I'm really bad with names.

I Will be riding behind you in the 2013 AED 1000!

Sooner,
If it's like it was last year.....you will be eating dust! LOL
I didn't know these guys last year, but glad I brought a group of Local DS Crazies with me to meet Scotty and his group, really great buch of riders.
Understand now, we were riding on public roads: on coming pick-up trucks, school busses, high school girls on cell phones, ect. And we were hauling AAAAAAA>>>>S! I thought, "Holy fence post Batman, we're gonna be to camp before noon!". But the wet weather slowed us down, a bunch (can you say flooded creeks and MUD?!).

Now I am not necessarily a slow rider, I grew up racing dirt bikes in the Arkansas and National Hare Scrambles, but I'm tellin' ya, some of these guys riding the AED 500 flat C O O K!

Story: I'm on my lowly, over weight, but well suspended KLR. We are on a really cool old gravel road going north out of Limestone towards the TAT. I'm leading and HAULING A*S! All of a sudden this guy on an XR 600 pulls along side and tells me to stop because someone back there has crashed!! Where in the H*LL did HE come from!

That does not mean one needs to go speedy to have a good time riding the AED 500. There were plenty of others that cruised along at a comfortable pace enjoying the scenery and such, knowing those ahead would be waiting at the next road junction.

You will have a good time.

it is fun aint it! But it's also not a race...ride your own ride and know that someone will be up ahead waiting for you at the next turn...but if you ride fast, as Devro said, know that you are not the only one on that road and things happen real fast!

Sorry, but I won't be attending this event..I may be out there watching or may even stop in to say howdy hi and all...so y'all have been warned!

The main thing to remember is everyone rides at their own level and speed, uses their own judgement and takes care of numero uno! We will meet early to break into groups this year too. Show up early, talk to some riders and see where you fit in. Or, meat everyone and take off yourself. This makes for more BS stories by the camp fire.

Last year, year one, everyone rode all day and had a great time. This year will be the same. C'mon out knowing your going to have the time of your life and meat some really great people. This ride was started in celebration of Earth Day and the great Ozark Mounatin back road country riding it offers.

Great, see you here. Last year we had people from five states attend and I think there will be more this year. We've got a group out of Ohio (not sure on the size yet) and one from Iowa (4) waiting a bit to watch weather before pulling the trigger. Its going to be a fun ride. Routes and tracks coming soon...next week I hope.

Count me In-

I'll see if any other Coon Asses wanna head up.

Looking forward to meeting everyone and a killer 3 days of riding.

I'll make sure to bring some Loctite swag for all.
