Helmet Mounted video cameras
Hi guys.. thinking of putting in an order with SWMBO for a helmet cam.
How do these things "stick" to your helmet. Are they fool proof.. I mean do have you ever arrived back home and found your camera missing? Any comments or experiences appreciated.

I have two GoPro helmet cams, got various mounts...Road helmet 1 x left side, 1 x right side & 1 x top, Dirt helmet 1 x top, wifes dirt helmet 1 x top & the best mount is under the helmet peak on another of my dirt helmets.
It sits upside down under the peak, means it's out of the way from overhanging trees etc. Also have a chesty mount, handy when you don't want to use a helmet mount, I used this on a boat on Port Villa harbor...BTW they are waterproof to 30mts as well...I tried it under water & it works. Well worth checking out the GoPro ![]() ![]() You can check my videos on youtube, various mounts to view, see link below.

Got the GoPro. I've broken the foot of two separate mounts. Even with only one toe securing the foot into the shoe, the mount stayed in place. I did back it up with some duct tape.
Only real drama with the GoPro, that I've discovered, is the tendency for condensation inside the lens cover. There are moisture absorbent strips available to fit inside the case. Recommend those as part of the purchase. You can't hear it turn on / off whilst the engine is running. Get an editing programme. You will record so much yawn inducing film, even when you are really enjoying the ride.

I've got the Contour HD, which I preferred over the GoPro because of its slightly narrower field of view.
I made my current mount by fitting a piece of plastic tube to my helmet with Blutac and then pouring in some Araldite... which I sanded flat and then stuck the camera mount on. Perfect sized, flat mounting area... and low profile. I made my previous mount out of a piece of timber, which I shaped to the helmet curve and then stuck on with 3M tape. Only real issue I've had is some dust ingress (cleanable) when I've been in really dusty areas and haven't used the waterproof housing.

Obviously, you blokes love the things, but I've never been able to watch more than about 2 or 3 minutes of footage from one. I just find it so boring.
Should I drink more? ![]() What am I missing? btw I'm not having a go, I genuinely don't get it.

Yeah... I've got hundreds of clips I've never watched.... but occasionally something pops up that's interesting. One of these years I'll edit some stuff together.

I have the drift hd. It has a built in screen to make sure its set right, and to play back footage, and a handle bar remote to start/stop and to take 8mp pics. I have mounts on my helmet and a couple on the bike and they hold fine.

I would only use around 2 minutes out of each hour of recording, dirt is more interesting than road (at legal speeds anyhow)
Some guys can edit the video to produce a masterpiece..not me I such at editing video. But have a look at this video, shot from a GoPro hero HD on a ride I was on....1WD did a great job. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=SS0Z6mG9rvo Have a look guys cheers Terry
