I'm living what I lived 4 years ago...with the Transalp: Going through the internet finding parts to make my "new" bike perfect to me... Solo seat won't be hard to find. Same with mirrors. I can live with the acerbis rear fender, but if I ever find an original...

Did the Paris-Dakar have a RPM (tachometer?) & Clock? Cause I don't have those on mine... After-market instruments would make me happy anyway. What spares should I be looking for to take with me on a longer trip? (Next summer)
Ignition parts? Any fuses on the bike?
I was away all week-end and couldn't take a closer look. Winter's coming. I know I'll be busy in the garage...(And I'm not thinking about the snowblower!)

Or the teeth are broken off inside the tranny...or the lever pin was bent on the shaft. That would cause the lever to stay out too far.

Pictures will come tonight.....hopefully. So you will notice the little work it needs to be an "almost perfect bike".

I just love the sound of the engine. Sounds like you're back in time... It is clearly a special kind of motorbike.

Looks like one of the "factory" PDs with the black fork legs. I couldn't tell from the pics, but does it have the black painted cover over the muffler?

No cover over the muffler. I have the original stainless muffler. But it's not in good shape. So the bike is currently using a much better looking black muffler... I'm not sure if the forks were "factory-painted". I wish I could find how many of those bikes were produced and imported to Canada in 1986.

There was talk of this a while back, but we never found any definitive info on it. There were two types of PDs, those that were sold as PDs off the showroom floor and those that were converted later by the owners with a PD kit. The original PDs came with the chrome (not stainless) muffler with a black sheetmetal cover over it (both parts taken from the ST model), no side panels, solo seat w/ luggage rack, PD tank, and the black fork sliders. The PD kit available from the dealer was only the seat/rack combo and the tank. As far as I've read, nobody knows of the serial number ranges for the PD and non-PD models so, we only know the total production numbers for R80G/S US and rest of world models.

I think it's safe to say that top brace won't fail...... That has to be 4 lbs of aluminum! Mine is a bit more elegant, if not techy.....but sure as hell doesn't beat it for brute strength!

Well....the new owner of this bike is.....me! And "me" is a machinist... So the brace you see will be replaced by a more elegant one made of stainless. (or aircaft aluminum). I will also add 4" Piaa driving lights, a solo seat and make the necessary brackets to fit a Givi top-case.
A 5L jerrycan will be fitted somewhere.
I have the original set of panniers but won't use them.(not air/water tight...not to mention how ugly they are) A second set off wheels (in black) were included in the sale. I will take off the off-road tires on them and install some 60/40 (Kenda? Bridgestone? any suggestions?)
A set of mirrors is needed. Handguards will be painted in black.
That's from January. For now....I need to complete my kitchen "improvement" defore Christmas!
