Looks like Belle Isle is suffering from Detroit disease, as in deterioration.

I'd be pissed if I was racing on that surface while it peeled up. Dangerous.

They've raced there many times before, so I was surprised the track had problems. But it's been 4 years and I guess they have to get it back in shape. A real shame to abandon a race after such a successful Indy 500.

On the political front, Randy Bernard's ferocious response may make balky owners think twice about challenging him.

That's a man who's not going to back down or let himself be back-stabbed. As he said today, "If you back a kitten into a corner he comes out fighting like tiger."

Message received by the owners, I think.

Yeah, I didn't want to see them having issues with a race that was on a major network. I was hoping the series would get a shot in the arm with another good show. Franchitti even made mention of the fact that he hated to see this happen when they were on ABC.

This was nice.

Chip Gamassi is helping Rahal-Letterman pay for the car that Sato wrecked at Indy. Letterman mentioned it on Monday's show during his interview with Franchitti.

ps Franchitti said Sato really didn't have any choice. He had to make the move when he did, otherwise he would have lost momentum and not had the run needed to make a pass before the final lap was complete. Makes a lot of sense.

Here's a very good article on the shaky future of aero kits in IndyCar.

Three sides to the issue. One: fans want the aero kits as a way to make the teams and cars different. Two: team owners don't want them because of the cost. Three: Honda and Chevy, the two known kit manufacturers, have to rationalize the cost of developing the kits even as the series itself isn't sure whether it wants them or not.

Difficult problem. Give the economy and the mostly impoverished state of the series, my guess is that aero kits will be abandoned. And if they don't happen next season, they'll never happen, because Honda and Chevy will no longer have the internal funding to develop them.

Watching Texas and I can't believe how many cars -- all engine types -- are pitting with engine problems. Unexpected after Indy was so clean.

Poor old Simona, I don't think she even started.

With the minimum drag rear wings, these cars look like a dog dragging its butt across the carpet.

That was a really interesting race. With about 30-40 to go, after Dixon wrecked, Chevy were something like 1st thru 5th.

Then Rahal came sneaking up and then Wilson came roaring up. And then we had a Honda 1-2. Fascinating.

Poor old Graham Rahal, so near yet so far. Cool that his car finished and they didn't throw a yellow flag after he hit the wall with two to go.

Will Power blatantly cut off Kanaan, wrecked his front wing and his race. So the drive thru was more than merited. Kanaan had words for Power afterwards.

IndyCar's decision to mandate minimum downforce and force the drivers to drive the cars, and to lift, was the right one. No bunched fields and lots of passing. Very, very good stuff.

China race canceled, IndyCar looking for a new venue for that date. Texas says it can't do it, which is a shame. Good racing, there.

New Mayor of Qingdao, new priorities, apparently.

Power's already wrecked somebody again. At least it took him out, as well.

I tuned in late and I see that Franchitti dropped out early. Anyone know why?

His motor blew up on the warmup lap. He sure got lucky that Power's spotter screwed up

I don't know how that happens on an oval.

Yeah, what other job does a spotter have to do?

Nice to see that Lotus has updates ready for its engine. I hope one of them is designed to make the motor actually work. The greatest pity of this season is what's happening to Simona.
