Sunday 12:30pm ABC.

Can we please change the title of this thread back to IndyCar?

2 reasons.

1/ It's a dumb joke and misleads people.
2/ IRL anything is red meat to certain people.

Please.

I enjoyed the race, and am pleased that Castroneves won. I looks like Lotus truly is behind on their engine development. I hate to see TK out so early, but as always, he showed class.

ABC did a good job with the coverage, and payed proper homage to the late Dan Wheldon. I think my eyes got a little red.

Well let me be the first to bring some reality to this earl koolaid love in I tried and all I can say is thank you Jesus for inventing the DVR as who could actually watch that boring crap live? Only the earl could make a toubocharged OW race car boring. The good news is no one was killed in the name of promoting this poor excuse of racing. Can the freeking cars be any uglier? Add front fenders and we have CanAm 2012: Carry on.

Looks like Chevy is the engine to beat. Nice tribute to Dan Wheldon by Helio when he did his fence climbing act.

I ain't gonna lie, I don't like the look of the cars. Maybe they'll grow on me, that happens a lot.

I feel sorry for the Lotus drivers, among whom is our favorite, Simona De Silvestro.

I wonder how much engine development will go on, given that money is an issue even for the engine builders?

Can we please change the name of this thread to IndyCar and remove the last vestige of toxic you-know-what? Please?

I give up. The IRL doesn't exist any more, except in thread titles on Adventure Rider.

When the turds float to the surface, blame yourself, mod.

I find this discouraging. Rubens on his first IndyCar race.

I wonder what drives the need for such fuel saving? I assume the cars’ fuel tanks are regulated to a certain capacity, yes? Is each car limited in the total amount of fuel it can use during a race? Was Rubens’ team simply trying to minimize stops? Are there political/marketing factors at work, i.e., is IndyCar trying to be “green” by encouraging better fuel economy from its cars?

It’d be one thing if a fast driver/team made the decision to save fuel in an effort to skip a fuel stop, and quite another if all the fast drivers/teams are cruising around at 80% throttle—not racing—because they have to, for whatever reason.

I kind of like the looks of the new cars and it's great to hear turbo motors again!

Good questions. They did reduce the size of the fuel tank this season, from 22 to 18.5 gallons. The new car package is intended to reduce fuel consumption (a goal that seems a bit silly to me.)

I think every car in the field was in fuel-saving mode for the entire race, based on the radio transmissions we heard.

I can only assume the obvious -- it has something to do with race distance versus fuel capacity/fuel consumption and the number of stops required.

The 18.5 gallon limit is by default, not design.

The original target was 20 gallons reduced from 22 for the new smaller V6 turbo motors. But the leeg mandated cell mfg produced cells that ranged from over 22 to down to 18.5 gallons. There being no way to expand the capacity of the smallest cells, the smallest became the defacto new rule. Thus the teams that received the larger cells have to run with a brick or two (or more) in their tanks to meet the new limit. Changing the name on the building sign at 16th St. and Georgetown Rd. has sure made everything all top flight and professional and shit.
