Decision Time: 1991 R100GS

A great opportunity just fell into my lap. A R100GS with ~88K on the clock, Tourtech Aluminum panniers, new shaft ... but with an electrical ignition problem (I think it's the Ignition Module).

Because of my history with 1. Fixing his and my airheads, and 2. he's family ... he said he'd sell it to me for $3,000.

OK. Talk me out of it ... but I'd be really impressed if you could.

Your thread title is misleading. There's no decision to be made here.

Here's the score:

6 BMWs bought to date.

(78 R100RS) - Bad condition, no spark, compression or working carbs. Got it running tho. Became Greta.
(82 R80/7) - Was actually a LWB R65 .. with no brakes .. parted out.
(85 R80RT) - No tranny, No Carbs ... good compression tho .. Became the Dobber.
(74 R90/6) - Horrible condition, locked - parted out.
(76 R60/6) - Needed significant love, Got it running! Sold to a friend, and it's his Daily Driver.
(81 R100RS) - Was in a wreck .. Engine ceased. Connecting rod bearing thrown ... Part out some and use as spares for other projects ...

The 91 R100GS ... It's A Keeper! I even have shelves of spares that will work!

Would you mind posting your widow's phone number? I'm sure somebody will be glad to take this off her hands when you're gone.

I'll prolly keep the Dobber ... it really has turned into an all purpose dirt bike / trail rider. The R100GS is really the dirt road rider ... It might be good on the single track ... but right now I'm still dialing in the Dobber. I'll think about it.
