It's true. Thinking has only resulted in trouble for me .. or at at a minimum hesitation.

I really see no hard decision here. Care to share the conflict?

The decision has been made

The conflict was really half hearted. When my uncle offered it to me, I instantly wanted it ... but knew I might have to get rid of something to keep it. So it was really a weighing of options ...

Sell the GS motor to Brad. Drop in Grata's motor in the GS. Don't screw around with The Dobber.

So ... I went to pick her up. And she didn't start. I know this going in. The PO (My Uncle) said he was driving to my house on a 95F day in stop and go traffic in Atlanta. Halfway to my house (stopped) the bike had trouble idling, it seemed to stutter. Then the stuttering seemed to increase and become evident at higher RPM's. He then turned around to head home. Once home he let her cool, and then tried to restart her. Needless to say she would turn over, but the bike never chugged or ignited.

I immediately suspected the ICM, and I told him about it ... even offered the spare I had. That silly glue on the back had given up the ghost. I had a ICM from an 81 R100 on the shelf ... and even though they are different part numbers (and look a bit different), they had the same plug, so I gave it a shot. She fired right up ... immediately.

I NEVER get that lucky. Now, I'm living in paranoia because at some point I'm going to have to pay the pennance. She's double plugged, brand spankin' new shaft. I got the Corbin seat and the single seat. The windshield will have to be cut down a bit. The tires are in great condition. She pulls ... Strong. And she even came with the sticker in the back ...

At Home!

He was in Florida ... but I sent him a video of it. He texted a response.

"dammit"

But don't feel to sorry for him ... he's got a 2012 R1200GS, a '78 R80/7, and a '84 R80RT to keep him company. He'll be fine.

Nice!

I've got a similar story about a '69 VW van I purchased many years ago for only $300, with a freshly rebuilt motor, transaxle, brakes, and new tires.
