Thursday Laporte Loop ride report - Much pictures, less words

Thanks Proettermann for putting it together. It was nice meeting everyone.

We met at the Me Oh My Coffee and Pie in Laporte. Arrived and Proettermann came out with coffee in hand to greet me. We had a great chat about.....
bikes of course.

Rode up Rist and that's an awesome road. Never get tied of it. Sorry no pics. Too busy twisting the throttle.

We get up Moody and run into this pair. Some might recognize them? See lower picture for close up.

Here's a close up.

We ride over Pennock and must say the guy on the Sherco is a really good rider. Was awesome to he's choice of line, body position, throttling out of the curves. Sorry no pics, too busy twisting the throttle.

So we get to Pingree and take a little break and chat. About bikes of course.

We get word of an old mine along Old Flowers and head out looking for it.

We find the turn off and start heading along it. Get to a creek and decide to wait for the others. Here's Dusty Bottoms heading down and out.

We'll this creek turned out to put an end of our exploration as we shall see later.

When in doubt, give it lots of gas!

The trail gets a little tight and Alan takes off to scout.

Well... he didn't get far at all. Nope not far before the trail ends. Turning around.

Here's where it gets interesting. We had to cross back over the stream...

When in doubt, give it even more gas!

Oops... well that doesn't look right.

We... no correction, Dusty Bottoms gets it fixed with some wire.

Don't know what Alan was doing to help but I was busy taking pictures.

It's difficult to see but the entire mountain in the background is charred. Real sad.
Having been evacuated a few times because of fire, my heart jumps every time I see smoke in the forests.

We get out of the offshoot and we... no correction, Dusty Bottoms fixing the foot peg mount again.

I don't know what Alan was doing but I was busy taking pictures.
I know! Alan was POSING for pictures.

It's back down Rist and Alan heads home to Boulder. I'm happy to report that Dusty Bottoms made it home ... or rather, less than a mile from home... at least.

I'm no good at fixing KLRs. Just ask Ironbrewer, or Hondo, or Deepinit or...

Fun ride guys, thanks.

Ah ha... yep... you and KLR's just don't get along.

Was nice riding with you. Must say, you can whip $ss on that XR! Enjoyed the views from behind of you jumping those water bars.

Great time guys. Thanks for documenting the calamity. Next time let's explore the other side of that road and maybe we'll actually have a chance of finding the old mine.

I should have joined y'all, because I'm doing fuck-all at work these days. Unfortunately, the night-ride last week finally did in my fender drop-down which holds my plate. A fix is on-order, but with some Quik-Steel & zip-ties, I could be back at it Great report, guys! Even if you did run into a funny-talking bald man on a weird French bike Glad Mike made it back, too, man

meerobus, thanks for taking so many good pictures - very appreciated.
Boys, thanks again for putting up with "the Mule". This was a very exciting ride and I learned a lot!

First image is at the bottom of Pennock Pass, intersection Pingree Park Road.

Second image is after I bid Dusty Bottoms farewell on the OFR offshoot as I was running low on steam and talent...

Sorry you guys did not find the mine. How much farther from the rut where I turned around did you ride in? Dusty Bottoms: sorry you bent one of the very brackets I am considering. Hope you could ride out ok.

I took about a good 25 minutes to the first buildings by the lower gate of OFR and then it was a homerun.

Have a great weekend,

Proettermann

PS: meerobus - I love your style. You are handling that X Challenge as if it is an extension of your body. Sweet.

Giving or taking directions has I guess never been my strong point , not sure I have one ! Flipping great to run into you fellas , we went on to the snow covered high country and spent some time conquering 517 and even worse went down rd 300 , what a hoot , several nose dives and face plants later we are both home and now Dave owns that Sherco !!
