I haven't seen anything official. I've heard that kids are supposed to be over 10 to ride by themselves, but I have seen as young as 3 yrs old (PW50 w/ training wheels) on the trail. The youngest I've ridden with was 5. I've ridden with plenty of guy with kids of all ages and never heard of issues with kids being too young.

Clearing out the phone, and a few photos reminded of this thread!
Here's a favorite from this winter. My son Colter (skier) and his cousin Eli (driver), both 7, using Colter's snowmobile as the tow-in for the jump in the background. They made a huge amount of laps on that course! ![]() and here is Dylan (3 at the time) when we went up Ophir Pass late June last year, just before it opened ![]() and Dylan topping out the wall during Willie's set at Blues and Brews! ![]() It has been a blast raising them to be fun loving mountain kids!

Kids on bikes!
My son is 14 (all 5'11" 180 lbs of him
), so I took him out to a field near the house and let him ride the DR 650. Within 15 to 20 minutes he was going through the gears and standing up going up and down some small hills. The grin on his face was priceless! He pulls to a stop and says that I should by a new bike, and give him mine, then promptly fell over. I told him to pick the bike up, and when he couldn't quite manage, I told him that was why he was going to get something a wee bit lighter to start with. We are now selling my 12" aluminum boat and trailer to fund a KDX 200 or similar. Unfortunately, he is attending two Scout summer camps (including one on Catalina Island) and applying to a Counselor In Training at Camp Cris Dobbins as well, so it looks like riding time will be limited this summer . I can't wait to be able to share some rides with him, and am hoping to get my 12 year old daughter interested as well 9she is fearless on her mountain bike!). Great thread! I need to get the pictures of his first ride off of my wife's camera and figure out how to post pictures here.Cheers, J.D.

Good deal, my son was just accepted to be a CIT out at PV as well.He heard about 10 days ago he was confirmed. Did your son hear if he made it or not? Catalina Island ? that sounds like a cool summer camp.

There are ATV restrictions but not dirt bike restrictions I have heard. There are some areas in Rampart that cater to the the little ones.

After seeing this video and learning what Strider bikes are, I got one for my nephew last fall. He was not quite two years old at the time. Now he is a little over two and having fun with it. He is just starting to pick up his feet and coast! Here is a pic from his visit last week:

I thought those looked like a great idea, so I picked up a super small pink bike from Goodwill and removed the pedals/chain. My daughter is doing very well on it.
