I got a big box of parts from Eagle Mike today

Then I went and dropped my carb off after work to get ultra sonically cleaned, because it was NASTY. Gonna be a busy weekend of wrenching

Yeah, I agree with you there! Britannia Composites is worth a look for the KLR-A, I think that's what the original "Wheatwacker" eventually went with. I don't run the KLR long distances on the highway very often. We did run up the Gaspe from Cambellton, NB to Perce, QC 150 +/- miles at about 70 or so, the windshield worked well.

Here are MPG figures at each fill-up for two different trips of 2,106 and 2,136 miles. Each of these groups starts and ends on slower Maine roads. The middle of each trip includes some of I-80, I-76, and I-71 to Central Ohio. These are calculated from the odometer so actual mileage will be about a half-percent lower.

(Yea, I keep spreadsheets of my gas receipts. Waddaya mean Amal retentive? I don't have a Brit bike.)

Boogers. I really dont want to go back into the carb to change the main jet again. Luckily I ordered a 140 main when I got my 142.5.

Anyone have any info on an Eagle Mike cheap HP and Torque mod by advancing the exhaust cam 1 tooth? There is a dyno sheet on one of the other forums. Any KLR riders try this mod?

Many have done it and it is that simple, advance exhaust cam 1 tooth. Have heard of no drawbacks of the"MC" mod but I know the 2 Mikes are still working on finding what degree advance is actually the best. Possibly an adjustable cam gear is in order..

valve shims

BMW shop. Older Beamers use the same 29.5 shims. Take one to show the parts guy because he won't believe you and they are cheaper than at the BigK shop.

Just picked my carb up from getting ultrasonicly cleaned... Man does it look nice

Now I just have to put in my KlX needle and I will be ready to rock. I will try and post up some pictures after my weekend wrench efforts are complete.

Before I finished the doo replacement I found that the adjuster was hammering the inside of the case. With a broken doo and a spring that was to long it was just flopping around as I drove. I cleaned it up with a file but I don't think it created any problems.

On the net there are several links/video's of where to drill the torsion spring retaining hole that DON'T sync with what Eagle Mike (E.M.) says. I drilled just left of 6 o'clock like it says on the E.M. packaging.

I was concerned that the hook end of the torsion spring did not lay flat on the doo. Starter gear clears the spring so no problem. As I went back together I installed the stainless steel allen head cap screw engine set I bought back in '07 when I bought my doo parts.

There's no real way to tell how long I was driving with the doo problem before total failure. Fixing the doo and welding the broken tab on my crash bars took away 70% of the buzz I felt in the handlebars. Don't wait around like I did, change your doo now. For sure on the Gen. 1 bikes. My bike is quite again, you only hear the exhaust and it's stock without the whistle.
