Eagle Mike 685 kit or 692 kit? Basically the same price so should I just go for the bigger one when I order this in a few months?

He's coming out with new kits now...692 and 719 being the first two. These new kits are way better engineered over previous versions. Not sure if previous kits will see the same upgrades. Email to Mike directly should help with your decision.

What does that mean? How and why?

I saw the 719 kit too, but he doesn't offer a cylinder exchange on it and it seems like the 705 kits out there already, where there is a lot more work involved in doing the kit.

Question for the inmates: I currently have Shinko 705s on my klr650 - they were all I needed in OK, where I did a 35 mile commute to and from work on the slab and the main offroad was on dirt and gravel roads. I now live in CO and only drive 4 miles each way to work and plan on heading into the mountains and out to Moab. Everything from muddy mountain trails to slick rock. In other words, minimal street and hopefully a lot of dirt, w/ the occasional long slab trip to get to more dirt trails.

I'm debating btwn the Michelin T63s and Kenda Trackmaster IIs. Thoughts?

I'm mostly street and like my T63's well enough. My tires are nearly new so if you have good condition 705's I'd trade you or let you ride my bike for a bit and see how you like them. I'm in CO too

Noob question about oil filter

Not exactly a noob to the KLR, but made a noob mistake and tossed or lost the oil filter bypass assembly on the last oil change. Ordered a replacement, but do I have to drain the oil in the engine before pulling off the filter cap, or can I get away with putting the bike on its side and opening it up long enough to get the bypass assembly in there? It's brand new oil in there, and it would be a waste to drain if I don't have to; although I suppose I could just pour it right back in.

Lay it on its side.

Sounds like a good trade, but I think my 705s are too old. They were on the bike when I got it 2000 miles ago. They have about 1/8"-3/16" tread left in the center of the tires.

Prospective KLR noob owner

I'm looking to get into a 2013 KLR650. I currently have a 2009 ER6n, my first bike that I've had for a year now. I'm wanting to get into adventuring riding and the KLR fits my budget and I love the looks of it. I'll be looking to get a larger windscreen and better seat. I'm no wrench monkey but have done the oil changes myself and plan to save myself the money by continuing. Anything I should know before I pull the trigger? Seat or windscreen recommendations? Other essential upgrades on these bikes?
