Local friend has some property about 5 miles from my house and invited me for a ride on this secluded property partly owned by the state, a good excuse to ride since power was down here for most of the day. I'll do a ride report just as soon as I get a chance but here's where we rode.

hm, well the pieces we are looking for are plain squares (mostly) of aluminum to be used for welding into boxes. should be cheap? waiting for plans...

OK people I have the opportunity (unless the stuff goes too fast) to purchase some 23 x 47 x 1\2 inch aluminum honeycomb panels cheap. I am probably going to get some for myself regardless but if you think they would be a good material to make something like this out of I need to know ASAP.

I don't think I can weld the honeycomb, in fact I'm sure I can't. Run of the mill 6000 series aluminum sheet will work. It's the same stuff that treadplate is made out of that the Jeep guys wrap around their tubs to protect. I think 1/8 will work. I can get it locally.

Can someone use that software to design plain boxes set on a curved plate that is the same curvature as the skid plate?

okie dokie, I will use the honeycomb to make some panniers

I will take a shot at the boxes - I will search back for the dimensions in old threads. boejangles is trying to get the real plans... hopefully he has some luck.

arch, care to make some detailed measurements of yours if boejangles strikes out? I know you are busy with your setup work on the new bike(s)... just checking!

Just a little info. here. 2000 and 7000 series aluminum is unweldable at least for any strength. I believe they contain zinc or copper. 6000 series would be your next strongest and best bet. good luck.
