You are getting really close but still incorrect. The river in the canyon in the photo does not share the name of this area. But there is a smallish lake that shares the name. Detroit Lake was the lunch stop on this ride.

I just double checked my Benchmark atlas and the river that shares the same name as the lake and area is on the north side of the road the photo was taken from.
