I sat down with Rob this week to review maps and discuss the route he and the team have been scouting. It looks like the COBDR will be hitting numerous passes over 12,000 feet and will be similar in length to the recently completed UTBDR at around 800 miles. Looking forward to riding the Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route for sure. Such a beautiful state.

Will the BackCountry Discovery Route map give me all the dual-sport roads in CO like your regular (2nd edition?) map, or do I need to buy that separately?

I don't have a bucket list, I have a post-bucket list. So far it includes
1) Coroner's report is to read "Death by misadventure."
2) Dixieland jazz band at my funeral.

No, the BDR maps only highlight the roads that are considered the route. It's a good idea to buy the 2nd edition of the Utah map to get more options for Dual-sport roads.

yes as Rob said they are 2 different types of maps yet are designed to work together to expand your tour.
we also have plan to create more a more detailed colorado dual-sport map with many types/grades of dirt roads listed, but that is a way off. the Butler Maps only highlight easier dirt roads w/ the DS maps listing those and many more challenging routes. The BDR maps are Touratech's project and we provide the mapping support.

And for those of you in the North East... A few of the BDR guys will be giving presentations at the "Learning Curve" stage at the New York IMS show held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from January 20th-22nd.

The presentations will include some video highlights from the UTBDR as well as practical information on planning and riding a Backcountry Discovery Route. They'll even be handing out sample packing lists and BDR stickers. If you make it to the NYC IMS show head to the "Learning Curve" stage to see presentaion schedule for the day.

There will also be a Q&A session afterwards so feel free to grill em with your questions.

We are currently riding this route for 1st time that Rob Watt has created. When we're done we'll finalized the exact route. Then we will offer a .gpx file you can download, plus a map and dvd.

...the map will have a way point for this sweet camp so you can take in this view too.
