And it is very strange how Ferrari is pitching this "new chassis".

Is there something wrong with the one Massa is currently driving? Ferrari won't say. Instead, they're pitching it as a preventative measure: "This choice was taken to clear up any doubts about the unusual performance of his car during the weekend at Albert Park."

So, with all the telemetry and information they have from the weekend, they can't tell if there is something wrong with this particular chassis? And if there is something wrong, what does this say about Ferrari's preparation leading up to the race? If they think the chassis is not the problem, then rather than letting the cards fall where they may, they now want to coddle Massa by giving him another chassis so he can use this excuse for his remarkable lack of pace.

Another scenario is that Massa is blaming the chassis, so Ferrari is calling his bluff, giving him another, and when he is just as slow in the new chassis, they'll have a stronger position to release him. It's like firing someone at a big company - how HR makes you jump through extraordinary hoops so the person fired can't blame it on the employer.

All in all, the way Ferrari behaves through these problems strikes me as an organization desperately trying to put up a brave face of team unity and good morale, while underneath the surface, there are petty little struggles going on between the principles, trying to cover their ass, preserve their power base, shift blame to others, and keep their cushy jobs.

Yes, very curious. Recalling both cars to Italy and sending them back to Sepang within the same week is an expensive way to coddle your #2 driver. I have to believe something else is up. Which is bad news for the team and for Pat Fry.

Ross brawn hits out at exhaust systems he thinks break the spirit of the new regs, thinks they'll be gone next season. I imagine he's referring to Red Bull, possibly Ferrari.

2:30am. Television's on mute.

I'm watching F1 Sepang, Practice 2. And I'm listening to Deep Purple's Child In Time.

It's like the night someone discovered rum goes with coke. Or gin goes with tonic.

Awesome.

I turn on Yakety Sax whenever Ferrari is on the screen.

Massa appreciates your support. The best he could do was 14th, finished the session 16th. Maybe a funeral dirge would be more appropriate than Yakety Sax?

Schumi was quick, that's good to see.

5-spot grid penalty for Kimi, gearbox change. It overheated after he stuffed grass into the radiator in Oz.

I'm really rooting for Massa to have some success, I just don't know if his accident took that little bit out of him. That combined with a, um, less than dominant car, seems like he's going to lose his ride this year.

The Mercs are impressive, I hope they have a better race than Australia. Rooting hard for Nico.

JB will quietly dominate again
Vettel will be frustrated.
Kimi will have a good race and come from the back for an OK finish as per Oz
Schumi will DNF yet again

Given that the red cars will probably struggle, I'm rooting for Schumacher to have a great race.

Schumacher can easily win from his starting position. I'd like to see that.

I think Massa, was done after the accident, a TBI will change a man. I want Shumi to win, the maroons at Ferarri are stupid for retiring him to early. For music during the Q's ok Bad Relegion's I want to conquer the world BTW bye bye Massa , a new car will not change the man who has been changed . Vettle will leap frog hard tires run more laps and it will rain

Massa was only 3/10ths slower than Alonso, so I think he helped himself in qualifying. Clearly the car is a problem, not even Alonso can rescue it. Pat Fry is under pressure. How has Domenicali lasted this long? Might be gone if he had a different passport.

Looks like we're in for a season of McLaren dominance. Two different tracks, same result so far.

Love seeing Schumi outpace his teammate. I wonder if the Mercedes isn't hard on its tires?

Does Vettel have two sets of softs left? He's starting on hards, conceding that they have a poor qualy car. But the Red Bull races hard. I wonder how many pit stops they have in mind?
