Day 10 Dec 8 0 kms Sacramento Ca
Day 10 Dec 8 0 kms Sacramento Ca
This morning I realized that there was no where I needed to be today, so I decided I would stick around Sacramento and see the sites. I had heard that the Old Sacramento part of town was pretty nice there was a cool train museum there. I went to tell the hostel staff that I would be staying another night, and they told me they had a big group coming and they would have no move me to another dorm. No problem, I can move I said. So then they checked the computer and asked me if I minded sleeping on a top bunk. I was less than thrilled with the prospect as I am old and fat and would need to climb down in the middle of the night at some point. She told me there was a private room available, so I Asked how much. Her boss was sitting there, and we had been talking earlier about the history of Sacramento and the history of the hostel. He told her to give me the private room for the same rate as the dorm. Sweet. They had also previously told me I would have to move my bike out of the parking lot and onto the patio ( still inside the gates) as the group would need lots of parking. So they comped me the parking as well. The private room isn’t big, but its private. ![]() So I got moved into my new room, and away I went. The hostel is right down town, and close to everything, so I started walking towards old town. While walking through the park, I saw and area roped off and a bunch news cameras and cops standing around. ![]() In the news last night there was a report that the occupy Sacramento group was staging a protest last night, and this morning there was a news report that 23 people had been arrested. So I figured I had better go over and see what was going on. Turns out there was a guy, who, as part of his protest, was occupying a tree. ![]() Headed off towards old town. It was pretty cool. All the buildings were restored to the 1880’s era, but had modern businesses in them ![]() ![]() Checked out the first museum ![]() Walked down to the river front, and they had a stern wheeler that had been turned into a Hotel ![]() Checked out another museum ![]() ![]() Went to the military museum ![]() Then spent a lot of time at the railway museum. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Walked back to the hostel a few hours later, and the tree guy was still in his tree. ![]()

Your doing a fine job Brian !!
If I have a critique, which I really don't, but maybe focus more on you and your trip. Don't worry so much about us assholes. This will always be something you alone will remember, to look back on a long time from now. Bottom line, some great stuff so far... great pics, and may the Gods smile upon a great " trip dude " !! :) I'm in. thealaskan screwed with this post 12-08-2011 at 10:35 PM |

It was great meeting you today. I hope you found the cycle gear shop okay. I'll say it again I am so jealous and excited for you. Did you find a jacket at the shop? I hope you able to get everything in San Francisco you needed. You have a couch here if you needed it on your return north. Ride safe and thanks again fir stopping at my shop and BS a little. Steve

Found a good jacket and, yeah, I could spend a LOT of money in there. Thanks for the offer, and if I am ever back in your area, I will take you up on it. And..... if you haven't found a Buell by then, I may be able offer you a deal on a slightly used, low mileage Ulysses
