So much of racing comes down to personal preference, changing generations, and technological advancements. I personally am not a racer, but like you, a huge fan of the Squadron and other BD LED lights that throw more than enough light for me as well as a color temperature that is very comfortable/natural for the human eye. Two or Three years ago this was only a dream and we would agree that LED lighting would have been a, "boutique add-on"; you would out run the light and it didn’t throw enough distance to be main forward lighting. Color temperature plays a huge role in the functionality of any light, in some cases the wrong color temp can lead to driver/rider fatigue and basically would be unsafe for racers. We have found through testing in the harshest conditions, environments, and terrain possible that 5000k (kelvin) is visually receptive to most human eyes. After countless scientific tests of the Kelvin scale it has been found that it accurately resembles the sun at noon on a perfect day (no weather conditions). LED technology like many other technologies is advancing and continuing to become more efficient, but the color temperatures of LEDs has and will continue to be accurate to the Kelvin Color temperature scale. Overall, we at Baja Designs would never let anyone, enthusiast or racer alike use a light if we didn't believe it was not only safe, but would give a competitive advantage. The Squadron and OnX have shown the amazing possibilities of LED technology, the Squadron was used by many Factory teams at the Baja 1000 during dusk and the OnX was used by many including Factory KTM as the first all LED motorcycle race set-up landing them second place behind JCR Honda. LED lighting is the future and it is already here with testimonials from around the world, it is an exciting time with the release of the OnX, it is the first time the distance of an HID has been achieved with the spread of an LED. Please forgive me if this was too much or in any way repetitive, this is something we are passionate about and love the opportunity to speak openly with enthusiasts. So, we at BD would have to respectfully disagree with that statement and ask those racers to please call us for testing :). Took the Berg 390 on commute today, poor thing needed to be run a bit. On the way home at night rain came down in buckets, a real frog choker. Had a good chance to see what the Baja Designs Squadron LED was like in super heavy rain, on a very dark night. It worked great! The light was not too much (on lower 20-30% setting) and color was good to cut through the rain and mist. Full power turned night into day a nice distance ahead but also reflected more off the rain, a trade-off. 60-75% was a good bright setting while cutting through heavy weather.

random question and kinda off topic and maybe covered but I can't find it.

so with LED technology needing less energy to power can these new lights run with less stator power output. In other words reducing the need for high output stators or just a battery to operate....?

It really depends on the bike. Small lights like the SII only draw 22 watts and the Squadron draws 42 watts but just comes down to what bike your working with.

As a very happy customer with the Baja Designs SII LED Combo Lights wired up I thought I'd give them a shot out here.

Ridiculously bright, the two make the same output as a BD Squadron with Combo lenses + I have my HID conversion lamp. Being a pretty focused/flat beam, the HID does seem have a bit of an advantage in getting more lumens downrange when tipped up, the LED's with combo lenses fill in the rest perfectly.
I will probably black out the top of my fender to reduce the glare off the white plastic that is more obvious when standing, that reflection was there before from the HID, but with the LED's it's a necessity while riding trails at night. Black Gaffers tape should do the trick.
I mounted mine on the stock turn signal mount and have since went to HDB LED integrated signals, now that I'm running BD's there's no looking back!

The closest thing I have to the stock Husaberg headlight, a stock headlight on a CRF250L which might be a tad bit brighter than the OEM Husa/KTM headlight, but not much if I remember correctly, low beam.

It looks like it would take some modifying of the shell to make it work. We also sell it in a complete oem KTM shell as an option.
