That I'm not sure of but I know you can going up the Sulphur Spring Fork off of 612 but it's a little rough. I've got some pictures I'll try to dig up later.

Tom
Pinch Creek was closed by the forest service two years ago.

Some pictures from the Sulphur Springs trail but these were taken years ago.

For Gaston and Nocturnal:

Are those roads that are closed now, gated, or signed, or what? When I get up there I don't want to ride on private property.

Thanks,

Tom

The Pinch Creek road head at the top of the mountain was tank trapped AND barricaded with fallen trees AND copiously signed. You won't mistakenly get on it. I never did check out the bottom of the mountain end, so I can't help you there.

This is terrible news. Hogback was the link. Kimberling Creek is fun and all.

I thought Kenny had a better picture.

Thanks Gaston. That's pretty clear, I wonder why they decided to close off the opportunity to go all the way through from E-W, or W-E? Looks like the last option would be to come in from the east and go up Sulphur Springs to Hogback and then back out to 612. I realize you could ride out to where the picture shows the sign, but I was looking for a through route, not an out and back. Something is better than nothing though.

The 606 end has a gate and I'm sure there are signs as well, going out Hog Back there are barricades and signs where the property line is.

Thanks for the response. I was up there the end of October on my street bike and wished I had paid closer attention. On the 606 side I saw a brown post in the ground with Hogback inscribed in it, but it didn't seem as close to Pumpkin Center as is shown on the BRT overlay. It looked like one of the FS markers but, perhaps I'm mistaken on the distance and I don't remember a gate. It almost seemed as though it was in some guy's driveway. I'll figure it out in the spring.

Tom

It's been awhile since I've paid any attention going down that way but I'll check it out. Chances are that I know some people that have access to the trails so I could check around and see about setting up a ride through there if anyones interested.

I'd be interested. Post it up here if you have something particular in mind.

I wonder what prompted them after all these years to block the road? There is a lot of private land up on Hogback but the road had served as a boundary for their property. You can see how their parcel fits into the map below. Purple is USFS land - not purple is private. Blue and Yellow roads are open USFS roads - other colors are closed/decommissioned.

Funny enough Google now shows the property boundary as well.

And here was the entrance to Hogback Rd from 606 from Google Earth. I snapped a clutch cable a half mile past the entrance in the summer of 2011.

But we had a backup zip tied in - thankfully - and made it through the mud and muck to the power lines:

I guess the road ends sign actually makes sense now - because last time I was there it was a through road. This was/is right by the powerline ROW.

Anyone have any pictures of the new gate off 606? Would love to talk to the USFS about it...

Also interesting is that a group from TVR ran Hogback from 606 to 612 in the Spring. They must have just gated the 606 entrance the past few months...

Well I've done some checking and it looks like I was wrong that is still a FS road but I know the last time I took a ride out Hog Back that it ended in a berm with posted signs everywhere.
I'll see if I can't get some accurate info on what the deal is and let you all know, sorry for the confusion.

Sounds great. Any chance you can get a current pic of the entrance on the 606 side?

Thanks.
