Help getting my bike going No spark

I am having an issue, I cannot get spark it has been sitting for a long time when I bought it, did everything you are supposed to with a sitting 2 stroke, but I cannot get spark, I have been told by another site to jump the coils from the hot side to get it running to see if the stator is bad, but when I jump it my dash lights up with the key off. What do I do, jump it with the coil unplugged from the harness

'79 still have points ? Condition of points good ? Gap good ? Timing good ? Condenser good?

But now that I think about it I am pretty sure 79 is CDI

I am pretty sure this is my problem, but when I jump them, my dash/cluster lights up, just doesn't seem right, I am afraid to roast something .

So do I unplug them and jump them

been a long time since i messed with one (sold them all) - check the wiring schematic closely and you should be able to figure it out - that's how i did it. i remember unplugging it and running a jumper between 2 pins - sorry can't remember which.

never replaced the relay. worked that way for a long time. looking back at it, it's probably a standard relay, i just couldn't find an oem one at the time, and didn't research enough to find a aftermarket match - this was pre-internet days, so it was a lot tougher back then :)

search usa2strokers.com or aircooledrdclub.com and you will find the answer..

You do have a fully charged battery in it? The Rd's will not spark on a a dead battery, needs voltage to excite the stator

I'll have to dig out the factory service manual, it's been a while since I messed with points and condensors, I switched over to a Neutronics electronic ignition

When/if you replace the points/condensers be sure to clean the cam lobes, if it's got oil or dirt there, it could keep it from grounding which will be no spark.
First thing I do with a points ignition is sand the points nice, cut a fresh end on the plug wire leads for the caps, get new plugs, and clean every thing else involved until it's spotless, usually works. I just revived a '76rd125 in this manner a month ago, p/o could not get spark on one side...

I've also had kill switches be evil and short out inside the housing, making no spark an annoying ghost to chase...
