I will once again seek out the absolute worst roads that I can find, potholes, chipseal, sandy apexes, off camber turns, blind turns, narrow, steep, dirt, gravel, deep marbled gravel, steep deep narrow marbled gravel with blind off camber turns and cows and tractors blocking the road just around the corner, dogs will chase us, big mean dogs looking for lunch, we will go deep into the hills where the locals are not used to having visitors......

Definitely NOT designed or geared for beginners or the faint of heart....but I do plan to sleep in and eat breakfast first.

we probably have a saturday late start/dirt ride for the AVL group again (late start, small group ) . My plan is to tag along on a scouting ride before (or dirty ride on Thursday) and "borrow" a route - hopefully dirtier than last years ride we did....

I used to try to get people to learn routes, but over time my routes became so complicated that I finally gave up and went to Plan B. I try to choose a relatively small land area (like half a county) with the best roads I can find, and zigzag all over it, attempting to hit every single road inside that perimeter, instead of trying to reach some destination. That way, when someone breaks down, or gets hurt, the pick-up crew doesn't have that far to go. Also, riders who aren't used to this kind of ride can become fatigued and split, and be back to camp in a short time if they bring a map or GPS. (I've never used a GPS myself. I go find the roads with a motorcycle and learn 'em). I also include "chopable loops" in the plan, in case we have many delays, I can chop them off so we aren't late for crawdads.

I love poking around those battlefields etc. I'll be looking forward to seeing where y'all get to during the RDV....once we even know where it's going to be! There's several Revolutionary War sites down here close to where I live and they keep making appearances in my stoopid day trippin' thread.

I managed to stop by the Kings Mtn battle field this past Oct during their anniversary campout. From there it's just a short ride along the Overmountain VictoryTrail to the Cowpens battle field...I pass those quite often and stop every now and then.

Just yesterday was down at Brattonsville, the site of Hucks Defeat and took two billion dumb pics.

Oh yeah...back before the day trippin' forum I stumbled across a reenactment display down in Camden, SC..

Love that stuff!
