The boy has been Kicking butt at South Boston like his Dad and Uncle did. I hope he makes it to the big's. The lineage train has not done too well as of late.

I admire Ward for walking away like he did. He won many of the big name races in his day, and seemed to retire to his game preserve when a competitive ride wasn't available. He has come out of retirement a few times for select races, but he doesn't seem to be a former star who is trying to hang onto the glory. There was nothing sadder than watching Elliott, Waltrip, Petty (both), B. Labonte and a few others stay on too long and run uncompetitively in 2nd tier equipment.

Cool2

I'd like to see Bobby Labonte run the full truck series and be the first driver to bag all three titles.

Yeah, Ward did it right. Richard Petty was the saddest to watch fade away for me, but he was burning his own money. I'm starting to wonder if Jeff Gordon has hit the wall? I've always said that no matter who you are a person should drop back into another series if you can't get it done at the top, build some confidence and come back after a year.

That's what I really like about NASCAR currently, if you don't have the ability to win or a vagina, you're out of racing...right now.

Washed up, no, but that's a decline for him and a far cry from the old Jeff.

There is a young good looking guy that can put together a sentence, won the Daytona 500 and doesn't have a full ride for the year. Take a look at how many up and comers that have been dropped since 2007...the list is huge, sponsors and teams can't spend money on guys that don't produce. The economy is bad, really bad.

All he needs is cash! You can really suck and be a real prick, but if a sponsor believes in you,(or your Daddy has $)you can be a "full timer" on the good ol' NASCAR whatever cup.Talent is only one piece of the puzzle,as evidenced by your example.Even Stewart has multiple sponsors nowdays, they choose their races where their product does well, this isnt a bad idea mind you,but I'm just sayin'.My example was Johnny Benson,ASA rookie of the year,ASA champ,Busch rookie of the year,Busch Champ,Cup rookie of the year,Rousch back marker. Then on to trucks,a clean, well respected driver who didnt tear up equipment.Won that championship but with no sponsor,is rideless.Big reason why NASCAR is no longer watched at my house.

Quite a bit better than the previous couple years, though! I think he's on the come back trail.

This week's Autoweek magazine is fingering him for the Champion this year.

Yeah, I remember when they were saying the old man was washed up, done, and he took off again like a rocket and was still rocking when he died. Old Jeffy has some more miracle left too.
