Murphy's Law or how do I get rid of gasoline stink

First of all, I always turn off my fuel tap. Always. But this time I didn't. Probably because I was disgusted at myself after losing a perfect riding day. I thought all of the critical damage from my last dual sport ride had been repaired. But I ended up wrenching instead of riding and was pretty disgusted at myself for missing something obvious.

That is where Murphy stepped in. I left the fuel tap on for like the first time ever. And for the first time ever I also had a fuel line split sometime Monday night. It leaked about four gallons of gas onto my garage floor. The smell actually woke us up. So now I am really disgusted at myself for missing something else obvious and being stupid.

But at least the two battery chargers in the middle of the spill area didn't also blow us up. So I am actually thankful for that mercy. But Grreatwife isn't expecially pleased with me right now with the house smelling like gasoline. So does anybody have any bright ideas about getting the gasoline stink out of the attached garage?

I already cleaned up the liquid mess with a bag of oil dry. But I suspect it is also inside every crack and seam in the garage slab. It was a a LOT of gas for a long time. So something liquid to slosh all over the place would be helpful. And, yes, by all means feel free to laugh, abuse and generally dog pile me for being stupid.

But bear in mind that my mother is 85 before going all JoMomma on me.

I would first make sure you got rid of that oil dry stuff... Its just going to be stinky.

Next I would open the space out and let it breath.

Then I would scrub the area that was wetted with soapy water, rinse and squeegie it outside.

And then I would use some fans in there for a bit.

In my experience, gasoline smell goes away fairly quickly on its own. Definitely get rid of the oil dry and keep the garage door open as much as possible.

Diesel, on the other hand, not so much. Power Service diesel additive, never...

as others said, gas is easy. wipe it up, leave garage door open for the day and done.
I manage to spill gas in the garage at least once a month.

Well it has been three days with the ddoors open and it still stinks. Remember, this wasn't a spill, this was about four gallons. The oil dri was been swept up and tossed. I am going to dry dumping a big bottle of Dawn in the same spot and let it soak for a couple of days. It it worked in the Gulf, right?

Buy a bag of the cheapest charcoal, not match lite stuff, put it out in the garage in several places on plastic or in used pie plates. Not as good as activated charcoal, but has some absorption effects and is really cheap compared to activated.. You also can scatter out ground coffee, the smell tends to cover things well.

Piss all over the floor. The smells should cancel out.

BP would be so proud.

A half gallon of Dawn mixed with a half gallon of warm water and dumped on the floor seems to be doing the trick. Of course now I have a second mess to clean up. A gallon goes a long way on the garage floor.

The good news is all that gas lifted most of the spilled paint, caulk and epoxy the previous owner of this place left on the garage floor. Oh, and that we didn't get blown or burned up. That was also good news.
