another fuel pump episode..!

So fitted a new facet pump+kit onto my 950 and then fired her up and she sounded sweet. Ran beautifully for 7 miles down the road, before engine began to fade and then die. The bike just about starts but coughs and wont move. So I left it outside some guy's house until the morning. Just got home now.
Anyone got any bright ideas, maybe not enough fuel getting through, could it be I fitted the filter on the wrong way round. Thing is, she ran great 20 minutes.

Open the air box and disconnect one fuel line, front carb works well. Turn on the ignition and look for flow out of the disconnected line. Turn off the ignition.

Consider installing a Dr Bean kit in the original pump, it's the best.

Considering the number of airplanes facet pumps keep in the air I don't think trashing the whole thing is the first option... :p

Check fuel, and make sure the pump is running. I have seen where marginal connections will cause the Facet to draw too much power.. If you want them to run the best use a 12 or 10 wire. They don't pull lots of current at a time but they pull very short bursts of current when they start off.. I find they run cooler with larger wire as well.

Make sure you didn't forget to turn the gas on... LOL

Yep. Also when you start the bike you should hear the pump cycle for a few seconds. If you don't something isn't right. Reversed polarity or some other problem.

My SE will run for quite awhile with just the fuel in the carbs which may be why you thought everything was fine.

I would bet you got trash in the fuel line going up to the carbs while putting on the new fuel pump. That crap found its way to the carb bowls where it lodged in the jets.

How do I know? . . . Been there. Done that. Remove carbs, clean carbs, reinstall. Ride.

I was thinking this also, especially if you used sealing paste or putty when connecting fittings.

We sussed it, just a kinked fuel hose pressing against the skid plate!
